I regain my perspective and sense of humor by ...
Susan: That's an area I need to work on, but going out with my husband (WITHOUT kids!) and talking with him away from home helps. He helps me to lighten up. Since I'm a very structured person, he helps me be more flexible with my planning and expectations. Getting together with other homeschooling moms and hearing their stories helps us all regain our sense of humor.
Barry: Reminding myself we only have 15 more years of school.

Running the homeschool goes better when I remember to ...
Susan:  Spend time with the Lord in personal devotions and prayer -- something I'm still working on.  Things ALWAYS go better when my day starts with time with God.
Barry:  Make certain to ask mom how the day went.

The spiritual exercise or devotion that is most helpful to me is ...
Susan: In addition to prayer, listening to uplifting hymns and other musical expressions of Christian faith through the ages. Hearing works of great composers who have expressed their faith in words and music helps get my mind off myself and focused on God.
Barry: Bible reading and consistent church attendence.

The best advice my parents gave me is...
Susan: "You can do anything!" I was raised to feel I had the ability to do anything I could set my mind to. That heritage gave me the confidence and strength to begin homeschooling.
Barry: Don't run with scissors. On homeschooling, nothing. That generation just doesn't have any experience with the homeschool paradigm. That's an unfortunate reality that the NEXT generation may not have to deal with!
