When I'm having a bad day, I...
Susan: call Barry and he calms me down. Sometimes I tell the kids that I need time by myself and I leave the "classroom". I heard a story once that Suzannah Wesley, the wife of John Wesley (founder of Methodism), was a homeschooler of ten or more and she would go in a corner and put her apron over her head and pray. I think I know sometimes how she felt.
Barry: remind myself I don't have to work nearly as hard as my wife.

When I'm about to lose my temper, I...
Susan: I try to remember the damage that my reaction can do to my children and our relationships. Speaking quietly can accomplish as much as speaking loudly or exploding, but I have to remember this lesson. This is the area I pray most about. I often do blow it in this area. Homeschooling not only teaches kids but it helps mothers deal with their weaknesses and to lean on God.
Barry: I switch to a verbal attack mode which helps no one and doesn't even make me feel any better. This is a weakness I am working on.

Our children have taught us...
Susan: Many things. The first is what an amazing God would give us these wonderful little beings to care for, with all of their gifts, talents, curiosity, intelligence and spiritual hunger. They've also taught me that parenting is THE most difficult job and I can't do it alone. I need God's help. And my kids illustrate God's unconditional love in how they show such love for ME in spite of all my faults and weaknesses. I think they've taught me that I wouldn't want to do anything in my life more than love and care for them.
Barry: the meaning of childlike faith and self-sacrifice in a culture where both are in short supply.
