Name: Susan Kroeker Husband: Barry Kroeker Town: State College Children: Kurt (12), Carolyn (11), Kathryn (8), Kimberly (6), Caleb (3)
Note from Dad: Mom is our homeschool hero. She does 95% of the school work. The kids and I reap the benefits.
The best thing about homeschooling is ... Susan: Knowing that we're doing the best thing for our children, academically and spiritually. And being able to spend so much time with the people I love most in the world. Barry: When someone you've never met remarks on your beautiful family. Or, when someone you've never met says, "You must be homeschoolers"
The biggest challenge is ... Susan: Being able to find time outside of school for housekeeping, planning creative meals, sitting down and just enjoying a book. Barry: Getting my wife to relax.
The best teaching tip I ever heard ... Susan: Try to teach as many of your children together as you can. I've been using unit studies such as Konos, for many years. It works well for children at different levels, especially for broader subjects of history and science. Expectations can be tailored to age level, but the presentation is the same. Barry: Pray for the teacher every day.
