Current Dogs and How to Care for Them

We currently have two Siberian Huskies for adoption. These two are lifelong mates and are to be adopted together. They are very energentic and playful. They have been around cats, other dogs, birds, and other small animals so they would work for households with other pets. They are also excellent with children.

Important Care Information for Siberian Huskies:

1. Affectionate: Attention and interaction within this close-knit group is what a Siberian Husky yearns for most. Expect to be greeted when you get home or get off the couch, abundance of cuddles and licks, and a very large dog sprawled on your lap. You will definitely feel the love. Make sure you have enough time to provide your husky with the interaction it needs. A Husky is not the best choice if you are away from home for more than eight hours a day, although having another canine companion may help.

2. Leadership: Huskies are stubborn. They will do what they want to do… when they want to do it. It is common for a husky to challenge its position in the pack and may attempt to disobey a command or try their luck in breaking the rules – and kick up a fuss when you tell them otherwise. Do not allow this behaviour to go unchecked otherwise you may find your husky ruling the house and, with strong territorial instincts, this could lead to serious problems down the road.

3. Space Huskies are independent and inquisitive so they need a large area in which they can roam around and explore. They can jump to impressive heights so they do require a tall (and stable) fence. They are fantastic escape artists and will likely try to dig under your fense, so they should never be left unattended in the yard for long.

4. Exercise: Originally sled dogs, Huskies have bundles of energy that need to be burned every day. If they have a small area at home they will need regular walks and exercise otherwise boredom and destructive behaviours may come about. They are great exercise companions, but their stamina is decreased in warmer temperatures. However, do not expect a husky to great off the leash. They are notorious for ignoring you while exploring new places and could prove nearly impossible to retrieve in a dog park without a lead. No amount of calling or whistling will get their attention and don’t think for a moment you can chase after them. Huskies can run fast…
