- The Herbert Carruth House is located in a quiet residential
neighborhood in a section of Boston called Dorchester. It is
a short walk from Carruth House to the Ashmont T station on the
Red Line. Downtown Boston is a 15 - 20 minute ride on the T.
Harvard Square in Cambridge is about 30 minutes away by T. The
red star marks the Carruth House's location on the following

- FROM NEW YORK and POINTS WEST
- Take I-95 to I-91. Then take I-84 to I-90 - the Massachusetts
Turnpike. Continue through the Newton toll plaza at the end of
the turnpike on the turnpike extension into downtown Boston,
making sure to stay in the left lane as you approach the
end of the road. Follow the signs to the Fitzgerald Expressway/I-93
SOUTH. Continue with the following directions.

- FROM THE NORTH FROM I-93
From downtown Boston head South. take the exit from I-93/
Southest Expressway at Exit 11B, Ashmont /Granite Ave.
When you exit you will be heading north on Granite Ave.
Cross over the small bridge spanning the Neponset River. Stay
in the left hand lane and proceed through the first traffic light
to the next, which will be at the intersection of Gallivan Boulevard
and Granite Ave. This is Adams Village. From this point north,
Granite Avenue becomes Adams Street. Landmarks are: the Eire
Pub, Texaco Station, Hollywood Video. Turn left at this
intersection onto Gallivan Boulevard, proceed through
the first traffic light and take the second right onto Carruth
Street. Proceed up the hill to the fourth street on the right
- turn right on Beaumont Street. The entrance to
Carruth House at 30 Beaumont is on the left.
FROM THE WEST WITHIN 128
From the west, take Route 203 - the Riverway, Arborway, and Jamaicaway
past Forest Hills, the old Boston State Hospital site to Morton
Street. At the Y in the road at the firehouse, bear to the left
onto Gallivan Boulevard. Proceed through the intersection
of Gallivan and Dorchester Avenue. Pass under the small trestle
bridge and turn left onto Carruth Street. Follow above
directions from Carruth Street. Proceed up the hill to the fourth
street on the right - turn right on Beaumont Street.

- Taxis are unfortunately "hit or miss" in Boston,
and many drivers don't know how to get to Carruth House - be
prepared with these basic directions to get you to Carruth House:
- Carruth House is 2 blocks east of Ashmont T Station in Dorchester
- Take Southeast Expressway (I-93 South) to exit 11B (Ashmont/Granite
Ave)
- From Granite Ave/Adams St turn left on Gallivan Blvd.
- From Gallivan Blvd. turn right on Carruth Street
- From Carruth Street turn right on Beaumont St.
- Carruth House is #30 Beaumont - 4th house on left - corner
of Beaumont Street and Fossdale Road.
- The fare, not including tip, should be about US$36
Directions by
subway
- Use
our MBTA, also called the T, the oldest subway system in the country. A
one-trip fare is US$2. The MBTA also offers 2 kinds of Link Passes: a
1-Day Link Pass (US$9) and a 7-Day Link Pass (US$15) which are valid
for unlimited travel on the subway, local bus and inner harbor ferry.
Passes can be purchased at vending maching in airport terminals (ask
for the nearest one at the Information Desk) or at T stations.
- Traveling to Carruth House by the
T from the airport or from South Station by subway is fairly
simple.
from Logan Airport:
Take the Silver Line bus from your terminal to South Station.
From South Station: At South Station, go downstairs to the Red Line to Ashmont. Make sure
that you do NOT take the Braintree train! Ashmont is the last stop.
Exit the train and walk out to Dorchester Avenue, turn right onto
Ashmont Street, pss All Saints Church on the right and turn right onto
Carruth Street. Walk 2 blocks and turn left onto Beaumont Street.
Carruth House is the 4th house on the left ~ number 30 ~ located at the
corner of Beaumont and Fossdale Road. |
