Through The Eyes Of
A Child
The band did an hour
and a half show at a local Borders Books and Music store.
The whole day was rather
dreary and it drizzled here and there.
We had a lot of fun, and
we had a good-sized audience in which I wasn't surprised. I mean,
doing a 1pm concert at a popular book store on a Saturday afternoon is
bound to attract a sizeable audience.
The band sounded great!
And we were all in good spirits. And although I was happy to have
gotten a good audience reaction, I was really overjoyed when one
of the dancers got the children together and danced during Sing, Sing,
Sing. When I did my drum solo everyone kept dancing, and when
I climaxed the solo and made an abrupt stop, all the children fell
to the carpet as if doing an old nursery rhyme like "Ring Around The Roses".
It was totally spontaneous and unrehearsed, and it's the sheer beauty
and spontaneity that makes things like this worthwhile.
I wished that every adult
could see through the eyes of a child... that enthusiasm of
doing something for the first time. As adults we get to that point
where we are so jaded, and cynical, and so critical of things that we fail
to see the beauty in "the moment"... just doing something for
the pure enjoyment of it all, rather than be affected by how others might
view you or what others expectations might be.
It just seems that we
all need to "look through the eyes of a child" every once in a while...
