Creative Beginnings

The rehearsal took place in the band room of a junior high school in the La Mesa area.

I was a bit tense, having gotten lost trying to find the place,  and I hadn't been in this part of San Diego in ages.

My wife came along for the ride.   She was as curious as I was to see if this new band would work out.   And,  she had expressed her interest in helping market and manage the band.  It looked like she was finally going to have the opportunity to put her MBA to good use.

Joe, the trumpeter is the musical director at this middle school and had donated his band room for our rehearsal.   The musicians are all prominent musicians in the local scene,  so it looked like we were going to get something happening this time.

This first rehearsal had been a long time in the making.   Finally,  I was going to play some swing again.  Things had been slow for me as far as freelance work was concerned.   Hopefully,  things were going to really "pick up" from here.

And now,  post rehearsal thoughts...

The rehearsal turned out to be a success.   We had some musicians that could read through the charts and play the music fairly accurately with no detectable mistakes or shifts in tempo.  What a joy!

I was specifically impressed with the keyboardist.   Anthony is a superb jazz musician and a busy one locally,  performing with many of the prominent jazz musicans here in San Diego.

Nate did a great job at arranging and re-arranging the music to fit the new lineup.  Because each member is currently busy with several musical projects in and around town,  the challenge will be in putting together these rehearsals every weekend.

I really was glad today!   Finally,  the music that I had loved playing for the last two and a half years was finally back in my life with the forming of this new band.

In the coming weeks we will need to get things happening,  to get back to working again...

side notes

Imagine yourself as a wave with the power of the sea behind it"

---Timothy Freke

"be non-judgmental"

I suppose this also applies to how I view myself,  along with my self-esteem.

I must think of myself as a natural part of the universe.   When you focus to much on the "me" of your being,  then we feel to see that we are at one with everything.
