Taking The Back Roads Woke up on the floor in Santa Barbara this morning... I fell asleep alongside my older son last night. We're staying at my sister-in-law's and they don't have enough beds, so I "camped out" on the floor, in a sleeping bag. It was a beautiful morning today. I awoke around 10:30am this Sunday morning and ended up having brunch by myself. Everyone had already finished breakfast a couple of hours ago. I played piano for a while after my brunch, then I played soccer with my younger son out in the backyard. Then we played croquet. Wanting to keep our new Expedition looking pristine, I washed it this morning in the driveway out front. I felt strange taking care of something that I might soon lose because of the steep auto payment and the sudden loss of my "job". But I quickly got into the "ZEN" of washing the car, so the work took my mind off things depressing. Anyway, after lunch it was time to return to San Diego. We took the back way this time, taking the highway through Santa Paula just before Ventura. It used to be a rather dangerous two lane highway where head-on collisions were frequent, but now they had widened the highway so that it was now four lanes with a center lane divider. And so we decided to take all the back freeways going home, bypassing the Los Angeles area. During the last four days I hadn't been playing drums, and I had missed doing that. I was anxious to get back home to San Diego and practice again on the drums. When we arrived home in San Diego, my younger son and I played croquet. My sister-in-law had given us their old croquet set, and my younger son seemed interested. I played croquet with him for about an hour. We had dinner, watched a bit of TV, then just had a quiet, relaxing evening before "turning in early" for bed. I was a bit tired and had not sleeped well at all last night. |
