Between Towns

At Home In Scripps Ranch

Here I am,  in-between the Phoenix gig and the weeklong stint at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas.   The weekend in Phoenix was great!   The Arizona Lindyhoppers Association had put on a weekend workshop and featured lessons with the legendary  Frankie Manning who was one of the pioneers in Lindyhop,  and Fred Kelly,  the brother of Gene Kelly.   It was a great weekend for the band and I was honored to be performing in this great event.   I ran into Frank Manning on Saturday night and I was totally honored to have met the man.   He really only said one thing to me which made me feel even more honored...   he simply said,  "Man,  your are swinging...".    For a drummer and musician to get that sort of compliment implies that my groove on the drums is really being "felt",  and coming from a great dancer such us Frank Manning is truly a great compliment.

And so,  now we move on to Caesar's Palace.   Just this morning I was coming thru som Buddy Rich websites and stumbled upon this drummer's website,  a guy from Sweden.   He mentioned that he had Cathy Rich,  the daughter of the great Buddy Rich,  sign his guestbook!   Wow!  I read the entry and she pretty much thanked this Swedish drummer keeping the memory of his father alive through this Buddy Rich tribute site.   Cathy Rich openly invited all to e-mail her,  and so this morning I sent her a message thanking her for producing those videos of her father.   I wasn't really expecting any reply back,  being that this is the daughter of Buddy Rich,  but I am hoping I can at least get message back.   I did tell her our band was playing Caesar's Palace,  a venue Buddy Rich has played countless times,  and I told her I was always thinking of Buddy and especially now that I'm going to Caesar's Palace!
