FRIDAY      07.31.98             lost in redondo beach

At 3AM earlier this morning,  we arrived at the KUSI TV Station to get set up for the morning show.   This was right after we finished our gig at The Catamaran Hotel the night before, or actually, just a few hours before.

Got home at 4AM and tried to get to sleep.   I ended up surfing the web and updating my website until I felt sleepy.

After sleeping for about 3 hours,  I got ready for the TV show,  and had to fight morning traffic with the rest of the throng.   It felt weird,  considering I've been a full time musician for a good 4-5 years now,  meaning,  no day gig.

Got to the TV station at 8AM.   It was quite an experience,  being in a real live TV station again.   The last one we did was at KNSD Channel 39.

Beginning at 8:45 we did a couple of 30 second "spots".   Toward the end of the show we did one complete song and was introduced by Laura Buxton,  one of the hosts of the show.   We then concluded with one more tune that would end the show and then fade.

When I got home I couldn't sleep!   I tried to take a nap in the afternoon but I could only manage to rest for about half an hour.

When my wife got home from work,  we took the kids for some ice cream,  and I got a tall coffee from Starbucks.   I needed something to really get me going.

Nate and I left his place around 6:30 for the Club Caprice in Redondo Beach.    We were having a good ol' time talkin' the sh*t,  when we didn't  realize that we had passed our exit and were on our way to Santa Monica,  passed LAX!    We backtracked to get to our Hawthorne exit when we saw the Manhattan Beach exit and took that as an alternative.   This was not a good decision!   We were totally lost by now and had to ask a few gas station attendants where the hell the Club Caprice was.   On top of that we didn't realize Pacific Coast Highway turned into Sepulveda!    Well,  we finally got to the Club Caprice with 45 minutes until downbeat.  Whew!!!

The gig turned out fine,  if not for the fact that we were all tired from doing the morning show earlier today.   Doing a morning show really throws musicians off.

On the way home from the Club Caprice gig Nate and I were both falling asleep.   He behind the wheel and I on the passenger side.   Somehow,  we got home alright...
