The first Judo club in Cagayan de Oro was founded in 1982 by Engr. Jose S. Aluyen and Archt. Eduardo T. Daang at the YMCA bldg. in Julio Pacana st. Puntod, Cagayan de Oro City. It was the birth of the YMCA Judo club, which had only 10 members and most of members were college and high school students. In addition, the judo club was successfully established due to the assistance of the "Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro" in providing mats at the YMCA building.

In 1983, the YMCA Judo club was officially affiliated with the Philippine Amateur Judo Association (now Philippine Judo Federation). From then on, many judo clubs were established throughout the city such as the DBP Judo Club, CCC Judo Club (aka CU Judo Club), Millennium Judo Club and MPSC Judo Club (MUST Judo Club). However, the most active judo club of today is the Cagayan de Oro Judo Club, which is located in Zone 2 Bulua, Cagayan de Oro City. With the continuous efforts of propagating Judo by Engr. Jose Aluyen and Archt. Eduardo Daang, they were able to develop competitive national players that brought honor to the city.

Currently, the Cagayan de Oro Judo club emphasizes on educating and developing students to become more competitive players for the selection of varsities in the top universities around the country.
