News

July 1, 2004 - Clay
CityBuildingContests.net has announced an August contest for Caesar III. The mission briefing sounds promising. Clay is an economic challenge with city funds and prosperity as winning criteria, it was designed by Emperor Jay.

February 21, 2004 - Impressions Cup at CBC
JuliaSet and many designers and testers at CBC have been working hard to prepare the most ambitous Citybuilding competition ever. The Impressions Cup features awesome 24 contests for all citybuilding games, from Caesar III to Emperor, and is split into two parts over two months each. Many titles in different categories and different difficulty levels (Hard and Easy) can be won, in the end we will know who is the one Grand champion.
The first part, including two contests for Caesar III, starts on Sunday, February 22th and will end in April. Go over to CityBuildingContests.net and check out the Cup pages if you want to compete. See you there!

November 4, 2003 - Highway Team Contest
The first Caesar III team contest ever has started at CBC. Caesar Clifford designed a nifty audition map, which you must complete to prove your interest and to give the organizers a hint how to create the teams for the main contest. So let's start by finding a way to get some immigrants past the hungry wolf packs! The audition contest closes Saturday, November 15th.

October 5, 2003 - Agoraphobia
This month's CBC contest for Caesar III is a subtle puzzle by Joshofet. Basically, the goal is to fulfill all requests with as few building space as you can. A hard nut to crack.

September 2, 2003 - Imagine
CBC presents a Caesar III contest for September - Imagine by Caesar Philon. Details can be found at the contest page.

August 15, 2003 - Advanced Caesar III Tutorials
Although most citybuilders enjoy playing Caesar III in a more relaxed manner most of the time, in contests it is usually a good thing to know how to apply the tricks (or "game features"). Caesar Philon has created some fun-to-play tutorial maps particularly aimed at existing and future contest players.

August 15, 2003 - Links updated
The headline says it all.

July 2, 2003 - CBC presents Veni, Vidi, Vino!
No, it's not Veni, Vidi, Vici. Sometimes even Romans prefer fine wine to fierce battles. This time I was the designer, and I hope you will enjoy the contest as much as I enjoyed creating it. The mission puts you at the foot of the Vesuvius, a volcanic region famous for it's rich wines, where you will try to gain the Emperors favor by fulfilling his greedy requests for wine and other goods. Check out the official contest page at CityBuildingContests.net for the full story. The contest is running until July 30th.

June 3, 2003 - Vercingetorix is making trouble
A leak in the space-time-continuum has teleported the Huns from the steppes of East Asia to the forests of Germania. After you saved the Germans to the satisfaction of Caesar, he orders you to crush Gaulish chieftain Vercingetorix. This CBC contest by Caesar Alan is open until Sunday, June 29th.

May 6, 2003 - Novice contest at CBC
A contest especially for players who have never entered a CBC contest before is currently running at CityBuildingContests.net, until Friday, May 30th. Caesar Clifford created an easy scenario, Graduation (contest 29), to give novice players the opportunity to find out how much fun it is to compete with other city builders.

April 14, 2003 - Best Scenario Contest 2003
It seems that Caesar III is going through a real renaissance this month. Not only two contests are currently running, but now Duan Xuan is holding the Best Scenario Contest 2003 for all who like to design a good map. You can find the details at the BSC website and this thread on the Heavengames forum.

April 14, 2003 - ICU presents Outpost
I-ChallengeU (ICU) has started Outpost, their second citybuilding contest for Caesar III. The map tests your military skills as a commander of a Roman fort; Outpost was created by Joshofet. You can upload entries till the end of April, I guess (no exact date found). As usual, players can choose to play the easy map or the hard map (the download links at ICU itself are unfortunately not working with all web browsers).

April 6, 2003 - The Ancient City
CityBuildingContests.net has announced The Ancient City (contest 27). Philon designed a speed scenario with an interesting story about an inner-Roman conflict; this time you will battle against Caesar's strong legions. The contest will close on Thursday, April 29th.

January 24, 2003 - CityBuildingContests.net reopens with a new contest
JuliaSet is back to provide wonderful contests for us citybuilding folks. The first contest is for Caesar III: Mediterranean (contest 24) is a peaceful mission settled in an idyllic landscape. The map was created by veteran designer Caesar Clifford. Your entry is warmly welcome till Thursday, February 27th. All details for this contest can be found at CityBuildingContests.net.

[News from December 21, 2002 removed. CBC's renaming to AncientMaps was only temporary.]

October 23, 2002 - Witness Protection Agency Contest
CBC has ceased its activities, but Caesar Clifford jumped in to fill the gap and started the Witness Protection Agency Contest. The contest offers an interesting, small map and some refreshing ideas. Check out the contest website and this discussion thread on the Heavengames forum for the details. The contest ist running until 21st November 2002.

October 1, 2002 - CityBuildingContests.net is closing down
The shocking news is spreading rapidly in the city builders community. Let's thank JuliaSet for her great engagement over the last two years and wish her all the best for the future! You can visit this thread on the CBC forum to read and write some last words.

October 1, 2002 - Squashed a bug in C3 Converter
Version 2.0.5 of C3 Converter is now downloadable.

September 14, 2002 - Site updated
I added a couple of strategy tips, an almost new scenario, and three new cities, including two from Morgan aka Pelagius definitely worth seeing. I also updated the links section. Due to bandwidth restrictions I had to take a few images in the cities section offline. Finally, a small gallery featuring some curious screenshots awaits your inspection.

August 3, 2002 - Summer Contest
Pontius Pilatus invites everybody to join his Caesar III summer contest which is running until the end of August. The contest map looks very well designed. For rules and info, read this thread on the Heavengames forum. Now, I'm going to find out why that harbor was abandoned...

July 29, 2002 - Cities downloadable for PC players
Finally, all cities are now also downloadable as PC saved games. Mac players who use C3 Converter should check out the bug-fixed version 2.0.1.

July 12, 2002 - C3 Converter v2.0 released
Along with other improvements, C3 Converter can now also convert Mac saved games to PC saved games, which means the last barrier between Mac and PC players has finally fallen. :-) All saved games in the cities section will be available for download in PC format as soon as I've found more webspace.

June 27, 2002 - PC-to-Mac saved game conversion utility now available!
Good news for Macintosh players. I was able to program a Mac utility program that can convert PC saved games into Mac saved games. So, all the cartloads of PC cities out there are now open for investigation on a Mac. This, of course, also means that Mac players can now play scenarios that are designed as PC saved games; with pre-built cities, disabled buildings etc. The bad news is that PC players still have to wait a little until they can view the even better Mac cities ;-). I hope to be able to add support for Mac-to-PC conversion soon.

May 27, 2002 - New Design - New Cities
"Citizen Jan's Small Tent" was my first name idea for this website. In the end I decided for a more pretentious name, so I think it's time to enhance the site design a little. Most graphics should look better now on high-color systems. The cities section now includes cities from two excellent governors, Aaronius and Morgan, and a solution for the African Lions scenario. Also, a few updates were made here and there. If this site happens to be down once in a while, it's not because I put it offline, but because of Geocities' very strange way of measuring traffic. Just come back a day or so later in this case.

April 10, 2002 - New Caesar III contest
Thanks to the wonderful work of the CBC team, we can enjoy a new C3 contest. "Quatrium" (contest 18) is already running for a few days now, but there's still time till the end of April to send in your entry. Visit CBC's website for the details.

February 4, 2002 - Saddle up your horse!
CityBuildingContests.net has started a new Caesar III contest, "Day at the Races". Entries can be submitted until Thursday, February 28th. Open for Mac and PC players.

November 3, 2001 - The Caesar 3 World Championships
CityBuildingContests.net has announced "The Caesar 3 World Championships". Starting Wednesday, November 7th, the competition will last over the course of four weeks and will involve several maps. The contest is open for both PC and Mac users. Especially Mac users should not miss this chance of a lifetime to compete with other governors, knowing the scarcity of Mac-friendly contests.

October 28, 2001 - African Lions
A new scenario, "African Lions", is ready for download. My solution will follow in the cities section later. Also, overview maps for all built-in City Constuction Kit scenarios have been added.

September 9, 2001 - Minor Update
I have corrected an error in the structures list (oracles have a city coverage of 500 people). Also, a link to "The Governor's Retreat" was added.

August 27, 2001 - Site online
More than two years have passed since the release of Caesar III, and I am still addicted to this game. I have decided to create another Caesar III fan site with some of the materials that I have collected and assembled over the last two years. One purpose of this site is to present my scenarios; I hope you like them. Another purpose is to exchange cities between Mac users. I have always found it interesting to look which style of city building other people use. This site is somewhat aimed at Mac users, but 95% is also relevant to PC users. Finally, please forgive me any poorly worded texts, English is not a native language for me. Comments are always welcome.
