Circles

Write an equation with the given center and radius.

Center: ( 1, -8 ) ; radius= 4

(x -1)2 + (y + 8)2 = 16

Take the center and use the opposite of what the center is. For example: 1= -1, -8= 8. Then take the radius and square it: 4= 16. Then use x and y for the variables and put them in parenthesis and put a square outside of the parenthesis: (x -1)2 + (y + 8)2 = 16.

Find the center and the radius of the circle.

(x + 8)2 + (y - 6)2 = 49

Center: (-8, 6); Radius: 7

This equation would be considered a circle because it has two square roots and they are both positive.
