Q & A with Leslie Carter
By STEPHANIE McGRATH -- AllPop

It can't be easy being Nick Carter's little sister or Aaron Carter's older sibling, but Leslie Carter seems to be doing fine.

The 14-year-old member of the Carter clan which has produced Backstreet Boy star Nick Carter and pint-sized pop singer Aaron, is releasing her own pop single to be followed by her debut solo album.

Calling from a tour bus in between school work and a five minute break, Leslie takes ten minutes to answer questions about her upcoming single, "I Need to Hear It" and her love of singing.

AllPop: What makes your upcoming single special to you:

Leslie: "I think it's because I had a lot to do with it. I had a lot to say on how the vocals went. It was just a really fun song to record."

AllPop: Down the road, will you try to get into other forms of entertainment like acting or dancing?

Leslie:"I'm not sure what I'm going to do I'm just going to go with whatever comes."

AllPop: Have you always wanted to be a singer or has seeing your family make it in the business influenced you?

Leslie: "Always. I've always wanted to be a singer. My family is very supportive. They're with me all the time."

AllPop: Do people ever tease you about Nick or pester you to answer questions about him?

Leslie: "No"

AllPop: What's your favourite track from upcoming album?

Leslie: "'Like Wow', it's a fast song. It's about this person and another person and she's saying "Like Wow" to the person...the way he makes her feel."

AllPop: Any other favourites?

Leslie: "Umm, no, that's my favourite."

AllPop: Who are some cool people in the music business that you've met since you've started promoting your single that you're excited about?

Leslie: "No one so far but I'm going to meet some more people today, LFO, No Authority."

AllPop: Who do you listen to:

Leslie: "Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera"

AllPop: What kind of vocal training are you doing?

Leslie: "Whenever I need a lesson I just get my vocal coach to come out and help me."

AllPop: What advice to you have for pop star wannabes?

Leslie: "First you have to find the right location, like California is where I started. You have to get a manager who knows people to talk to and find record companies. And then...if you've got talent you get signed with a record deal!"

AllPop: What upcoming event are you most excited about?

Leslie: "This tour." [Leslie is currently performing along with LFO, Blaque, A*Teens and Hoku on Nickelodeon's All That tour for the month of August/beginning of September]

AllPop: Do you get nervous before you go on stage?

Leslie: "No, I talk to my dad and he tells me to do good and don't be afraid, have fun."

AllPop: Is it fun for you?

Leslie: "Yes, it's very fun."

AllPop: Are there ever times you miss hanging out with your friends?

Leslie: "You need to make sacrifices, that's the way I think of it."
