What: We hear you're touring with BSB this summer. How did such an unusual combination come about?
Shaggy: You think it's unusual? Yeah, I guess I'm the only reggae guy there, so I'm the odd one. But they can't ignore this odd motherf***a anyway, right? It basically came about because we have a hot record on the chart right now, and they wanted a hot person with a hot bill.
What: You've said that you admire the Backstreet Boys. Why?
Shaggy: I just think they work hard. I knew them since, like, 1991, working the malls and the circuit in Europe. These guys worked their tails off, then came to America and blew this whole thing up. Then everybody just kid of rode in on their coattails. The Britneys and the 'N Syncs, they kinda just [rode] in. I'm sorry... everybody likes 'N Sync - I like the Backstreet Boys 'cause they were the ones who did all the f***in' work. These guys should be given a little bit more respect. I don't really dig their music. To be honest - and I gotta be honest - I don't even own a BSB album, but I respect them for what they did. For the amount of work, I gotta give 'em props.
