Is there anyone who doesn't know the black and blue sides to life? The Backstreet Boys have made a whole album out of that. And have a guess what the title is: 'Black&Blue'.
On January 29 the second single of this variety-packed album will be released to record stores. After the romantic ballad 'Shape Of My Heart', the boys now surprise us with 'The Call' - a song that reflects the black side of the Backstreet Boys. "You're in a club or you're on a party with a bunch of friends," AJ explains the situation. "You're just getting ready to leave and you're taken by surprise by this beautiful girl that might catch your eye across the room or whatever and you decide, you want to hang on and talk to her so you call your girl-friend or your wife or your whatever at home and say: 'Listen, I'm gonna be late, you know, I can hardly hear you, my batteries are kind of low,' and just kind of BS-ing your way through it and just basically getting ready to cheat on your girl-friend."
An unknown side of role model lovers AJ, Brian, Nick, Howie and Kevin. "It's a cheating song," they say quite bluntly. Unbelievable! Are there also dark sides to the Backstreet Boys?
Don't panic! The five heartbreakers are not singing about themselves, of course! Nick explains: "For me it's not necessarily anything we would do. I think the songs and the album, what's really cool about them is, they all relate to the good sides and the bad sides of a human being. What happens, you know, I think that's kind of cool because it's not like we hide behind a goody two-shoes image, something like that. We just bring it out and let everybody know we can do songs like that, too. It's a song about being real and that's another step we're taking."
But the fans will not only be able to enjoy 'The Call' on CD. They also have their latest single in store for their current 'Black&Blue'. For all of those who can't wait and who want to know in advance what kind of outfit the boys have chosen this time for their live performance: It's black, of course. Black as the 'Blackstreet Boys'!
