(9/5/00, 10 a.m. ET) - The **Backstreet Boys**' Howie D (Howie Dorough) will perform later this month in Puerto Rico and Argentina to benefit the fight against lupus, the disease that claimed the life of his sister. The shows will take place in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on September 13 and two days later in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Proceeds will go to the Caroline Dorough-Cochran Lupus Foundation, named for his sister, who succumbed to the disease in 1998. The non-profit foundation assists in Lupus research, education, and financial support for individuals living with the disease who cannot afford treatment.
"This disease took my sister from my family," says Howie, in a statement. "It means the world to me to have friends, family, and the public to help find a cure for lupus. Hopefully, in the near future, a cure will be found and no other family will have to endure such a tragic loss as our family has endured." In June, Howie performed at the Lupus 2000 benefit concert in Orlando, Florida, that raised more than $100,000.
The Backstreet Boys' next album is scheduled to hit the streets in November.
