Who We Are

Bruce Haralson, born Allison Bruce Haralson, is the son of the late Alfonso Haralson & River Lee Haralson. Bruce was a little different from his other siblings. When they were outside playing, he was normally in the kitchen with his mother. He was fascinated with baking. Whenever his mother was making a cake, you could always count on him to be right there to help.

Bruce baked his first boxed cake mix when he was only twelve years old. He was always very careful to make sure that the cakes did not stick to the pan (s). After the first boxed cake was a success, it was obvious that everyone loved his cakes for Sunday Dinner.

Back in 1996 Bruce found a recipe for Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Walnut Cookies. He later made some of the same & shared them with family members & received rave reviews. During this same time Bruce was employed at Allstate Insurance Co. One day he took a batch of the cookies to work for one of his co-workers that was celebrating a birthday. The cookies were an instant hit!!! Soon thereafter everyone would tell Bruce when their birthday was to get some of his cookies. They quickly became favorites at wedding showers, & other office events.

Several years later two of his co-workers, Carol Stegall & Lynn Hill encouraged Bruce that his cookies were good & that he should consider selling them. While the two ladies were confident in his product, Bruce did not have their same enthusiasm. Bruce would make cookies for anyone that requested them, and he never charged them any money. He baked cookies & gave them away for free for seven years. It was not until sometimes later in that same said year that Bruce realized that there was a market for what he was doing. It was Mothers Day, 2002 when he made $500.00 in a single day selling cookies & brownies.

Late one night in 2003, while preparing cookie dough, Bruce realized that he didn't have enough flour. He went around to several of his neighbors' houses without success. Then at the last minute he called Nancy Gines. She said that she had some flour, but that it was a Special Kind. Bruce then changed the recipe & spent the next few years perfecting what many call a very good cookie!!!

It was not until 2004 that the name Bruce's Delights emerged. One of his then co-workers, La Verne Stewart actually penned the name when he was asking her possible names for the business. It was like God gave her the name. She said " call them Bruce's Delights because you are always so Happy to make them!!!
