Gold Walk Investiture

Preparation: Make a golden path for the girls to follow. Could be yellow sheets of construction paper taped to the floor. At the end of the path, create the Brownie Woods. Could be done with potted plants, fake plants, or cardboard cutouts. Don't forget to include the Wise Old Owl! The pond is located in the middle of the woods. Could be done with a large mirror surrounded by flowers (fake, real, paper, etc...) For an outdoor ceremony, you might use a small swimming pool surrounded by potted plants.

Adding the skit of the Brownie Story at the beginning would help spectators understand the "twist me and turn me" part of the ceremony. I would probably let the returning girls or maybe even just the 3rd grade girls (since it is their last year as Brownies) be the characters in the skit. After the skit, they should join the other girls outside the door or in the area the gold walk will begin.

The ceremony:

Ass’t leader: Come along and take my hand

We’ll follow the path to Brownie Land.

To find the woods, we’ll walk the golden mile.

But first, sing a song about a Brownie smile.

(Girls sing "The Brownie Smile Song")

Ass’t leader: Becoming a Brownie is a special thing.

We do our business in a Brownie __________.

(Girls answer "RING!")

Insert as many stops along the way to answer questions about Girl Scouts.

(Try to keep them in the rhyming theme.)

Continue down the path and stop at the edge of the woods.

Ass’t leader: This is the door to the Brownie woods.

Knock, then answer the way you should.

(Girls "knock" on door)

Leader: Who comes to the Brownie woods?

Girls: We do!

Leader: What do you want?

Girls: We want to be Brownies!

Leader: Then enter the magic woods.

New girls circle pool, returning girls stand on other side of woods.

Girls: Twist me and turn me and show me the elf.

(while turning around 3 times)

I looked in the water and saw MYSELF!

(while looking into the pond)

Leader: Now is the time your Promise to make,

But first give the Girl Scout Sign and Shake.

(Girls around pool turn to partner and give sign and shake. Turn to face parents and repeat the Girl Scout Promise)

(Leader and Ass’t pin the Brownie pins on upside down.)

Leader: Now you are special Brownie Girl Scouts.

With your first good deed, turn your pins about.

(To returning Brownies)

Leader: You were Brownies before and you have returned to state the Promise that you learned.

(Returning Brownies say the Girl Scout Promise.)

Leader: Lets all form a Brownie Ring, So friends, new and old, can join to sing.

(Sing "Make New Friends")

Leader: Now we’d like to present the Try-Its that have already been earned.

(Leader and Ass’t present Try-Its)
