New Historics Program

This is just a fun project for me. The cross below was  a fertility test that I performed on Champagne Elegance to see if it would set pods. I ended up getting two separate pods using pollen from what I think is the historic TB LENT A. WILLIAMSON.   This is my first seedling in my New Historics program.  My goal is to take favorite oldies and bring them of age, so to speak, by crossing them with modern TBs.  This experiment yielded one stunning seedling that obviously looks much like the pollen parent but with many improvements.   First of all, the substance and form are vastly improved, see the photos below  One other noticeable improvement is the significant increase in color saturation in the standards and falls.  Another fabulous unexpected surprise was the lavender gray band on the falls, I don't know where this came from . This seedling will be kept for future evaluation.   Maiden bloom was  short and in the Border Bearded class.  The other seedling beside it was put there to show how impressive the color and form  variation can be in seedlings from the same pod.   Check back in a few years time to see what else has emerged in the little seedling patch.
