Once again, I made several crosses this year in my quest for Space Age iris using mostly the pollen from HONEY SCOOP on many different cultivars.  I also used DR.NO for a cross or two along with CANAVERAL and THORNBIRD.   The later bloomers that I wanted to use did see any action because they were pretty much wiped out by an incredible heat wave.  I also made a few fun crosses for my New Historics program.

New to me this year was Broken Color Irises, the star of the garden was GNU'S FLASH but TIGER HONEY and BEWILDERBEAST were also respectable but on the short side.  Germination from last years seeds has been disappointing and slow.  Getting seedlings large enough to get into the ground before the cold winter gets here has turned out to be a very challenging past time.   I've been experimenting with frequent fertilizations to push the seedlings to try to get them blooming size for next Spring.  So far, the results have been positive.  An application of Miracle Grow every other week has made an impressive difference in seedling size.  I'm anxiously waiting for next Spring....bring it on !!!!!!
