BLAGDON LAKE
Blagdon Lake is situated about 3 miles from Chew Valley Lake close to the villages of Blagdon and Nempnett Thrubwell and is Bristol’s 2nd most important inland site for birds. There is plenty of interchange of birds between the two lakes.

Like Chew, the lake is owned and managed by Bristol Water plc covers over 400 acres. The lake is the oldest of Bristol’s 3 reservoirs and has a very natural feel to it because of its rich bank-side vegetation, reed-beds and woodland habitats.
The lake regularly attracts a wide variety of wildfowl and waders, especially if water levels are low and there is plenty of mud exposed. The lake will be forever famous for the 1st accepted record of a Pied-billed Grebe in the Western Palaearctic in December 1963.
There are several public vantage points around the lake plus dedicated bird hides along private tracks. Permits are required to use the hides and these are available from the Woodford Lodge reception centre.
