Family Notes: John J. Bowman was a member of the 12th Massachusetts Infantry during the Civil War. He remained with the Army until his retirement in 1893. He traveled quite a bit during his military career, including assignments in North Dakota, New Mexico, and Detroit, MI. We believe he was born in Ireland, however, his death certificate states he was born in Boston.
