MBTA Photos in the 1970's
I first started riding the MBTA with my dad when I was young growing in the the Boston area in the late 60's and 1970's.  I can remeber the PCC's, the El, the 01100's, Bluebirds and Silverbirds, the first LRV's, the SOAC Car, and the Blue Line 0500's. I also remember WBZ radio, Joe Green, Maynard in the Morning, Don Kent, Rex Trailer and Boomtown and the Great Blizzard of 1978.
Through those years I was too young to realize the importance of taking pictures  and have since regretted never having photos of that era. Now with the help of other photographers I am rebuilding my memories of that time and sharing it with you. I want to personnally thank Joe Testagrosse, Larry Mills, Bob Redden (AKA Nightbus) and many others who have allowed me to use their photos. If you want to contribute anything (photos, maps, etc.) PLEASE e mail at

Just before I moved to Florida, the Boston Herald put out a special about the MBTA. In this shot on of the MBTA's PCC cars rumbles down the Beacon Street Line.
