Our Chapter by Renee T. |
Have we taught our kids about biotech and med tech?
| Part of TSA's goal is to educate students about various areas within technology. Our chapter has helped our kids learn about medical technology and biotechnology in several ways. First, they learned through the contests. Second, we learn through each other. Third, we learn as a part of our exposure to technology-based career fields.
|
Many of last year's contests, and a few of this years, focused on biotechnology and/or medical technology. So that our kids could succeed, we helped them learn about both. We also gave them access to as many resources as possible, and supported them in every way we could. They learned so much from that experience. The fun atmosphere of the contests made them open to the fact that they were learning. |
Of course we have!
|
After all, if we hadn't...
| Many students start out knowing next to nothing about bio- and medical technology. Officers and kids who know more help those who don't, and those who have much to learn do lots of research. Information and knowledge are shared by everybody, as we learn together. This year, we were all surprised at how large a field it was. Everyone, no matter where they start, ends up learning a tremendous amount. |
We have always tried to introduce our members to as many technological careers as possible. Many start out thinking that technology is only about computers, and they need to learn that it's not. Medical technology and biotechnology are career fields that are very tech-based, but not so much sitting in front of a computer as working in a lab. For some people, this is much more interesting than any other technical career. Also, since saving people's lives is an important application of technology, people become more interested than they were initially. |
...they'd be missing out on so much!
|
We're proud of how much our students learn and have learned.
| Our chapter tries to teach its kids everything about technology that we can, including biotechnology and medical technology. Some years the focus of the contests help us, but most of the time it's up to us. We always try to show our members all their options, as well as teaching them about technology in every way possible. Biotechnology is one of the most fascinating and hotly debated areas of technology, and medical technology is so important and life-saving that people are almost always interested. How could we not teach our kids about these exciting fields of study? |
