Discussion
questions:
1.
The
following question was asked to
Joanne Harris (author) in an
interview. I
will post the answer Harris gave
after we discussed it. What is the
nature of Vianne's true identity? Is
she some sort of mythical figure
from a fairy tale?
2.
There
are two main narratives in the book:
Vianne & Francis. What is,
according to you, the main
difference between the two in the
way they think?
3.
The
work of Joanne Harris are often said
to be "organic fiction".
What do you think that term means?
4.
Do
the main characters have any room to
grow spiritually or otherwise or are
they already well rounded persons
with everything they need to live a
good and fulfilling life?
5.
How
is the relationship between Vianne
& Roux different in the book and
movie? In
the book at the end it's not
completely clear if Vianne is going
to leave again or stay. The last
three sentences are: Hoping that
this time it will remain a lullaby.
That this time the wind will not
hear.
That this time -please, just this
once- it will leave without us.
Does
this mean Vianne has no control over
her life? That she has no control
over her
own desires and choices?
