Two days after leaving second city Bonnie was offered a role on "Grand."

Bonnie on Grand:
Two people who were in "Grand", Eddie Jones and Marianne Muellerleile, are supporting characters in Return to Me. "Those two were on the very first sitcom I ever did, and I promised them that if I ever directed a movie they would be the first two people I would call, and they were."

"So I hadn’t seen either one of them for 11 years, but after I sold this movie I called them up and was like ‘okay, you’re in the movie.’ They were like 'who’s making it? Did you get money from a dentist or something?’"

Synopsis:
Tom and Carol Anne Smithson move to the tiny town of Grand, Pennsylvania, where Tom has gotten a job at the Weldon Piano Works. Tom is soon fired, however, after his "innovative idea for the future of the company" (making golf clubs at the piano factory) is panned by Mr. Weldon. Mr. Weldon takes a liking to Carol Anne, however, and hires her. Over the course of the series, Carol Anne meets and befriends the working class Janice Pasetti. The goings on of the small town are covered in humorous and often touching detail.

From the Carsey-Warner site:
Three families from different social levels clash comically in this spoof on soap operas. Septugenarian Harris Weldon is the patriarch of the town of Grand, PA, where his piano factory is the leading industry. Rattling around the mansion with him are his idiot son and acerbic butler. Also working for Harris is his housekeeper, who lives in a trailer park with her overweight young daughter, while being amorously pursued by the town's motorcycle cop. Between these extremes of wealth is Harris' niece and her ambitious yuppie husband, who hopes to get involved in the old man's piano company, and of course, his fortune.

Summary: One of the most underrated sitcoms of all-time!

If you never got the chance to see Grand when it first aired, you really missed on a clever and witty show. You also aren't alone. Although it was a major ratings surprise its first season (NBC actually had cancelled not expecting its strong ratings), its second season dropped off. This was partly a result of NBC's cancelling the show. In an unusual step, the show filmed and aired a series finale which was notoriously final. The second season was mostly spent trying to explain the dramatic events of the series finale. At least they didn't cop out and make it a dream.

Bonnie Hunt and Pamela Reed offered stand-out performances. The beautiful Sara Rue was possibly the funniest cast member. You may remember her from any number of small supporting roles in any number of things. Its a shame her size have kept her from getting more desirable roles. She's still playing teen-agers 10 years later!

Overall, this show was always very funny and was a favorite of mine in its time. If you get a chance to see some episodes, jump at the chance! You won't be disappointed.
