The six-mile walk, which is held annually on National Cancer Survivors' Day, begins at 9 a.m. at the Chicago lakefront and Randolph Street and proceeds south along the lakefront to McCormick Place and back along the same route. Participants may walk any distance they choose.
The walk honors cancer survivors and all those whose lives have been touched by cancer, particularly researchers and physicians who seek a cure for this disease, in the hope of increasing public awareness of cancer survival and cancer prevention.
The event is sponsored by the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University, whose physicians, scientists and health professionals are inspired by cancer survivors.
