1. Have you ever been caught up in a natural disaster (flood, twisters, earthquake, etc)? Yes. In 1998 a tornado (only an F1) came through the area. A co-worker and I were standing outside the office looking up into the eye of it. It was cool! In 1999 there was a major flood in our town. It did millions of dollars worth of damage, including $9,000 to my house. However, I did win a Pennsylvania Newsaper Publisher's Association award for writing about the flood. Now that I'm in California I'm sure I'll be feeling an earthquake someday.
2. Have you ever been arrested? If so, why? Nope.
3. What was the last time you were tempted (or actually did) break the law (other than speeding)? I don't remember exactly how I old I was (6 or 7 maybe?) when I stole a small package of Oreos from a store. My mom found them and made me take them back to the store and apologize. I wonder if that's why I'm not a big Oreos fan now?
4. What shareware or freeware do you use most (time to plug your favorite coder - ew, that sounds bad, doesn't it)? Uh. I'll have to think about that.
5. Do you listen to music and hear a tune and say "oh, that's 'our song?'" What is the tune and with who do you share the song? -- Caution! Corny Alert!Nick and I have "our song." It's Bon Jovi's "Thank You For Loving Me." (Well, that and "Super Freak" *w*)
6. What is the worst thing you have done to your body on purpose? I won't go into the reasons why, but I purposely gained weight.
7. Have you ever felt like a "Higher Power" was trying to tell you something? What was it, and did you listen? I've felt that lots of times. The most recent had to do with Nick, but I won't go into all the details. But, yes, I listened and I'm glad I did.
BONUS: Where were you when the world stopped turning? Under the bed.

Let's start with the good points. Uh. Oh yeah. The 1980 U.S. hockey team lighting the torch. That was awesome! It brought back memories of the 1980 games and the chants of "U.S.A. U.S.A." I was in college then, and knew nothing about hockey. But I was so caught up in the hype about the U.S. team that I had a friend (a N.Y. Islanders season ticket holder) teach me everything she knew. It was worth it because I knew what I was cheering for. And it felt good. I also liked seeing Dorothy Hamill and Peggy Fleming. Jimmy Shea and his dad were pretty cool, too. Seeing other countries carrying mini American flags rocked. President Bush standing with the athletes when he opened the games was fantastic.
Now for the other points of the opening cermonies. Long. But that's to be expected. Aside from that, did anyone else think the person who came up with the costumes and the whole "child of light" thing was on some kind of retro acid trip? It was just way too out there for me. Then there were the Indian tribes. I think it's great that they were included. And you know what? The rest of the world probably doesn't even know they were most likely included because of a little Utahan guilt. Next, Sting. I used to love the guy. Now, I wish he'd stick to producing -- or something, anything, else.
When I was a kid and teen-ager, I loved the opening ceremonies. So, am I getting more cyncial and demanding as I grow older, or was this less than other people expected, too?

Post 9-11
The opening ceremonies of the Olympics are tonight and I know we'll be hearing from everyone how America really needs this "after Sept. 11."
I'm not insensitive. I was just as devastated as anyone on Sept. 11. One of my brother's best friends died in the World Trade Center that day, so I'm not immune to the heartache people felt, and still feel, and probably always will feel. But I'm really sick of everything being important or symbolic or heart-warming or {insert overused adjective here} in light of Sept. 11.
America needed something. We needed something to pull us together. It's a shame that such a tragedy was the thing that had to accomplish that. But, while not forgetting Sept. 11 -- and especially the heroes of that day and the days that followed -- I think America needs to change its focus.
Maybe the Olympics are just the thing to do it if -- and this is a big if -- we can focus on the games and not what they mean in light of Sept. 11.

What's is going to take?
I should have learned my lesson by now. I should know that if I don't take care of myself it's going to happen all over again. It's a very simple equation in my situation. drinking water=good health.
So, what's it going to take for me to do what I have to do -- consistently?
Do I have some kind of death wish? Do I not want to feel better? No. That's not the case at all. I'm very happy with my life right now. In fact, I've never been happier. Why do I do this to myself? I'm not stupid. So, why?
