Apparently, he did think twice about the Valentine's Day plan. I hope this taught him a lesson, helped him grow up a bit and realize that when it comes to pleasing your spouse/doing the right thing, you're the only one responsible for that.

Well, it seems he may have thought twice about the Valentine's Day plan. He took down the post I posted about. I wonder if that has anything to do with the dozens of people who responded in his forum.

While most of his fans are jumping all over the chance to dole out their money to him, here are some examples of the people who think the way I do:

*all you 'fans'/'community members'. Has it been forgottent that Wil CHOSE to work on his website. Why should I, or any mature individual, pay homage to someone's (obvisouly) forgotten responsibilities/consequences???? This is so insane.

And Wil, would your wife agree to all of this??? Did you, yourself, forget that you 'chose' to work on your website, obviously putting it ahead of spending quality time with your own wife? This was 'your choice' (no gun to the head that I ever heard of). 2 months your wife went to sleep by herself??!!?? After even 2 weeks, you still chose to continue on with your actions. How dare you ask these people, some of them so poor they can barely afford to eat themselves, to help you clean up after your mess!!??!!

*It is completely tacky of anyone - especially a celebrity - to ask for money. So what if Anne puts up with all the time that Wil spends on the net? Millions of spouses do that, and I dont see you anteing up any cash for them to have a night out.

*I think there are better causes that need fund raising by people with celebrity status. This, IN MY OPINION, isn't one of them. I personally think your wife would be happier if you made her dinner at home.

*instead of donating for dinner, why don't you donate to Shave a Hoopty. No offense, Wil, but I would like to think that perhaps this would be a better way to put money towards a cause?

Priorities

One of the things that makes a marriage work is setting priorities. Having your significant other listed as your top priority seems like a no-brainer, doesn't it? Apparently that's not the case for some people.

Wil Wheaton is asking fans of his Web site to donate money so he can treat his wife to a nice date on Valentine's Day. On his site he writes ""My wife has really suffered because of the time I've put into this website. She went to bed alone for two months while I was building the damn thing, and she has to look at my back every monrning and again at night, when I'm reading and answering email, or writing in my weblog. ..."

Why does he think his fans donating to this cause is the right thing to do? Read on:

"What I think is really cool, is that it gives the website community a chance to say "thank you" to my wife for her patience and understanding, for all the time I put into running WWDN. I think this would be a cool way for everyone who enjoys the site to give a little something back to the person who has paid the most for it all these months."

You know, I've been working on my site a lot lately, too. I used to eat lunch with my back to Nick while I worked on my site instead of moving away from the computer to eat. Last week, we talked about that and how much it bothered him. I don't do it anymore. We're both happier because of it.

But, since I did cause him some heartache for the months I was doing that, I have an idea. If anyone would like to donate to the "Nick and Anne Valentine's Fund" .... Uh, forget it. Morally, I think that's just wrong.

Obsession

I obsess over a lot of things. I'm don't have OCD. I know people with OCD, and I know they're absolutely miserable. I'm just happy that my obsessions are, for the most part, under control. I do feel bad for Nick sometimes because he has to listen to me talk about this stuff all the time. Good thing he loves me.

There are three things I'm obsessed with right now. Actually there are more, but these are the three main things. They are #1 The thing I'm not allowed to talk about until, I hope, summer; #2 epinions; and #3 blogging.

I think I'm getting over the epinions thing. But for 2 whole on-line days (almost) that's all I did (almost). I wrote reviews, read reviews, rated reviews, looked for products to review, tried to figure out how the whole thing works. I was truly obsessed. I think it's because I want to be a popular reviewer. I want people to like me.

Which leads me to my blogging obsession. The last few days (weeks) I've been tweaking my other blog, trying to get it the way I want to, trying to make it appealing. But what difference does it make. Either people will like me or they won't. It shouldn't really matter to me.

Hmmm? I think that leads me back to the first thing, which I'm not allowed to talk about. But let's just say if the other parties involved had gotten to know me, and found out I'm a nice person, instead of jumping to conclusions I wouldn't be having this problem/obsession right now.

I think I just had a revelation. What I'm obsessed with is being popular, or at least well-liked. Must be high school flashbacks or something. The smartest thing for me to do is remember how much Nick loves me and believe that's the most important thing in the world. Actually it is.

Yet another personality test.
Introspective Sensitive Reflective
You come to grips more frequently and thoroughly with yourself and your environment than do most people. You detest superficiality; you'd rather be alone than have to suffer through small talk. But your relationships with your friends are very strong, which gives you the inner tranquility and harmony that you require. You do not mind being alone for extended periods of time; you rarely become bored.

and another:
Lovers of blue are wonderful sex partners. They are affectionate and sensitive to their partner's needs. They consider love making a fine art and their approach is elegant. Men who love blue are like concert pianists, delicately ravaging their partner like they would play a baby grand. Women in the blue category enjoy sex to the fullest. They are exciting partners but their passion may be compared to a tidal wave rather than firery aggression. Both women and men enjoy foreplay and the aftermath of lovemaking, as much as the sex act itself. In marriage a blue person is a wonderful mate -- never seeking outside interests.

Here's Tuesday's This-or-That:

Coke or Pepsi? Coke. Only the real thing for me, baby.

McDonald's or Kentucky Fried Chicken? Tough one. I don't really like fried chicken all that much, but I like all the extra stuff (potatoes, mac & cheese) at KFC. As for McDonald's, call me crazy but I love their cheeseburgers. Hmm? Okay, if I have to choose, I'll pick McDonald's. (sorry Tim).

Pizza or subs? Another tough one. It really depends on my mood, I guess. Sometimes I have such a craving for pizza it's disgusting. lol But other times a sub really hits the spot.

Nintendo or PlayStation? PlayStation, although I've only ever played with one once -- a couple Christmases ago it mesmerized my nephew and me.

One credit card or more? I used to have many credit cards. Now I don't have any.

Photos of people or photos of nature? People

In the car, do you listen to the radio or CDs/tapes? When I'm driving, usually CDs. If someone else is driving, of course they get to choose.

Would you rather see a dentist or a doctor? No question -- doctor! Please don't make me go to the dentist. Please!

Did you watch the Super Bowl or not? Kind of. I was online, but turned around to watch if it sounded exciting.

American or non-American made car? I've only driven American cars, so I guess I'd have to say American.

Thanks Ashley!

Here's this week's Monday Mission:

1. Any songs on the radio that you just can't stand? Quite a few, but I can't think of any at the moment. Figures, huh?

2. What color do you think looks the worst on you? Pale yellow. It makes me look as if I have jaundice.

3. Can you ever really trust someone 100%? Yes. Nick and my mom.

4. What is one comforting thing you can always count on in life? Stouffer's macaroni & cheese. Seriously, there are a lot of things that comfort me. I'm not sure I could pick just one.

5. This Sunday my pastor encouraged the congregation to go on a 30-day fast of some sort. Some are going 30 days without television, others are eating only vegetables, while others are giving up caffiene or chocolate, etc. The concept is similar to lent, where sacrifice leads to spiritual enlightenment. What one imporant thing you could you give up for 30 days? When I was a kid I used to give up chocolate or soda or certain television shows during Lent. But as I've gotten older, I realized that sacrificing something is less spiritually enlightening than doing something constructive. In the last fews years during Lent I've visited/sent flowers to nursing homes; done extra random acts of kindness; visited my mother more often. The list goes on.

6. Imagine this: there is a fire in your parent's house. Your parents and any pets are safe. You are able to run in the house and grab something, but there is only time to carry out one box. What would be in it? Pictures/photo albums.

7. Taking it a step further, let's say the fire was in your home, but it was small and contained to the living room. The fire is out and your family is helping move your belongings out of the house. Is there anything embarassing or personal in your house that you might not want a family member to discover? Yes.

BONUS: Am I in too deep? Have I lost my mind? No. Yes.

The good, the bad, the weird

There sure is a variety of news these days. That's a good thing if you're in the news business. I suppose it's a good thing, too, if you get bored easily. But for an average (ex-newsperson) it's just plain confusing. I can barely keep up. But in my insomniatic surfing I came up with three stories, which show the good, the bad and the weird sides of the news.

First, the bad. Actually, I didn't stumble upon this story. I heard about it on the news and went looking for it. An earthquake in Turkey killed 45 people, injured 170 and left many more homeless. This would be sad news even if my in-laws didn't know people who are currently visiting Turkey.

Next, the weird news. I just don't get this whole Daniel Pearl thing. I don't understand why they'd want a Wall Street Journal reporter, no matter what kind of story he was working on. It just seems fishy.

I'll end with the good news -- the feel-good news. A bus driver in Seattle entertains his passengers with jokes, stories and spontaneous poems in the bus, which he's decorated with smiley faces. He hides candies and snacks under the bus seats on special occasions, and he has a cache of stuffed animals for crying kids. He leads sing-a-longs featuring bus and work-themed songs: "If You're Happy That It's Friday, Say Uh-huh" and "Ride, Ride, Ride the Bus Gently Down the Street."

Are you smiling now? I am.

A couple of months ago I posted about certain people lying about their stats. They claim they have a certain number of hits, but don't have a public hit counter so who knows if they're telling the truth? When I posted that, I didn't have one specific person in mind (one person's antics inspired me to post, but I wasn't pointing fingers at just this one person). However, one of the people I had in mind got a public counter this week. Bad timing. Just a tip for future reference, never install a public counter when 180 of your closest friends are going to be away from their computers. Posted by TI Anne at 12:19 AM | link |
