The Taliban claimed that at least 200 villagers were killed by a missile strike in Karam. Uh, yeah. Whatever. I'm not a warmonger. I don't want to see anymore innocent civilians killed. But --- 200 ain't even close to 6,000. Our 6,000+ who were killed had no warning. The U.S. gave Afghanistan plenty of warning that this was coming. So, don't talk to me about dead 200 villagers.

As if I haven't taken enough personality tests since I got on the Internet, here's another one: The Star Wars Personality Test. I'm Luke Skywalker. Hmmm? I guess it could be worse. OK Vinnie, now it's your turn.

I'm feeling rather anti-social today. There's really nothing else to say about that, I guess.
This is kind of disturbing. I'm all for saving thousands of human lives, but this is just wrong in my opinion.

OK. One more. Landlord Maurice Herman says he suffered "great pain and mental anguish" because of a "Wanted" poster tenant Daniel Zavilowitz had put up outside his Fifth Avenue apartment with a picture of Osama bin Laden - and the name "Osama Maurice Herman."
Herman is suing Zavilowitz.
Even in war, frivilous lawsuits don't stop. It's nice to know there's such a sense of continuity in America. *sigh*

And now for the strange news story of the day (as if the Gilligan's Island thing isn't weird enough). Barmaid says cappuccinos made her breasts grow. I don't even know what to say about that.

Why do they hate us? It just may be because of "Gilligan's Island." Makes sense, I guess. I never really thought about it before. But then again, I try to avoid all thoughts of Gilligan's Island whenever possible.

The Daily Texan - Atheists feel alienated by calls for prayer While I understand and respect their conviction on this issue, I have to wonder if they feel the same sense of conviction when they cash their paychecks and get their money that says "In God We Trust."

I found an interesting analogy at this site. "Saying that America brought the terrorist attacks upon itself is kind of like saying it's the woman's fault for being raped..."

This is pretty interesing. You rate people on a scale of 1 to 10 to determine if they're terrorists. Besides Osama bin Laden and Timothy McVeigh, you'll find the Cookie Monster, Ethel Rosenberg, Darth Vader and Kenneth Starr among others.
Here is where you'll find a real list of the FBI's Most Wanted Terrorists.

Now on to lighter matters. I really don't feel like getting into work this morning because I'll be leaving in a couple hours. So I'm doing something totally brainless but fun --- visiting name generators. I got the idea while visiting easily amused yesterday. Anyway, here we go:

Not to be confused with My Mobster Name: "Ugly Feet" Anne
Well, they do have a couple of other names picked out for you if you don't like the first one ( If ya ain't happy wit da name ya gots, ya can ask fer a new one. We pick yer name based on yer attributes, see. So we got a coupla names lined up fer ya, just in case. My Superhero Name: The Dazzling Flat Matron
My White Lesbian Name: Sapphire RagingShadow

It's hard to believe it's been a month. In some ways, because so much has happened, it seems as if it's been much longer than a mere 30 days. In other ways, it seems like only yesterday. For the thousands of people waiting for news about their loved ones I'm sure it seems like an eternity.

Ah ha! Miami Herald: Tabloids belittle bin Laden, hijackers -- Although an official with American Media Inc. says he doesn't see how the headlines are linked to the anthrax outbreak, it all makes sense to me. I mean, guys are guys. What guy wouldn't want to wage bioterrorism on a publication that said he had a small dick?

Add that to the fact that he knows every song ever written and, well, need I say more? Oh well, it's just one of the bazillion and 17 reasons I love him. *s*

I just got off the phone with my mom (who told me her car was covered with snow this morning. It's a beautiful day in Pennsylvania. Not!). Her sister, my Aunt Mary, is a nut case. I didn't realize this until recently but day by day it's becoming more evident.
Aunt Mary is a Navy veteran and served during the Vietnam War. She was a nurse stationed in Guam. An easy way to explain what she did in Vietnam is to talk about the tv show M*A*S*H. Remember how after the surgeons in the M*A*S*H unit did quick fixes on people then shipped them off to Seoul? Well, the Seoul of Vietnam was Guam so Aunt Mary saw a lot of disturbing things, a lot of death. She's probably got PTSD, but would never admit it or ask for help.
Anyway, she lives across the state from my mom and was visiting a couple of weeks ago. During one conversation, family members expressed concern about my brother, who is definitely suffereing from PTSD (or close to it) and is still extremely depressed about the Sept. 11 attacks. He lost one of his best friends, as well as many other friends, friends' relatives and co-workers, numbering into the hundreds.
What does Aunt Mary say? "People died in Vietnam, too. ... Lots of people I knew died."
Huh?
The difference, dear Aunt Mary, is that the people you knew who died were well aware of the fact that death was a possibility every single day they were there. Jim's friends went to work that Tuesday morning with death probably the furthest thing from their minds. I'm quite certain that Jim never expected to get a frantic phone call from his friend Mike saying "Rob's dead and I can't find Tim." Rob and Tim were on the 104th floor. Mike was on the 92nd. I'm sure that on Sept. 10 Jim was more concerned about planning the next rugby meet with Rob, not planning to attend Rob's funeral anytime soon. Now, funerals and memorial services are part of Jim's life.
People who are in the military, whether it's in the forefront of their minds or not, have accepted the possibility of death as part of their everyday lives. Civilians who worked at the World Trade Center, and their friends and loved ones, did not. When the majority of your friends are on active duty during a war, you expect death. When the majority of your friends work in high finance, you don't. When you're in your late 70s and have been through several wars, you have some understanding of what you'll be feeling. When you're in your mid-30s and the Gulf War is the war you lived through, you have no idea what or how to feel when your friends are killed.
So, dear Aunt Mary, do not equate your war experiences to Jim's.

What started out as a good day yesterday, ended up bad. We spent most of the day at the county fair and had a great time but we'd only been home for about an hour when we got a call from Nick's mom saying there was something wrong with his dad. To make a long story short, Nick spent all night in the E.R. with his dad (who is now in the hospital) and I spent all night with his mom, who is disabled. (She's on oxygen 24/7 among many other things ... but she's a strong, strong lady and a real trooper!)
We no sooner get home and start figuring out how we're going to get things handled today when this happened. The attack was inevitable, but it took everything I had to hold back the tears.
Why am I online you ask? Well, Nick and I belong to an online group and have responsibilities there, so I took care of them. He's running between his mom and dad right now. He also insists that I get some rest.
OK. I will rest (and eat) after this. I worked in food service for a few years before I got a job at a newspaper and, ya know what? This is crazy!! I'm all for bonding and teamwork, but I ain't walkin' through hot coals for anybody, for anything!!!
