Memories of Blythwood

Brian Levy, Class of '70

I remember:

  • Boys and Girls doors
  • Red Flags keeping us off the grass in the early spring and on rainy days.
  • Teachers ringing hand bells before school and at recess.
  • Mdme. ? trying to teach us those few words of french.
  • Field Day.....white lines limed or chalked onto the grass.
  • Basket Day
  • Bringing food in for the kids at Sackville St. Public School
  • Playing ledgers......I must remember to take a look to see if that spot on the school building is still there.
  • Playing 'work-ups' before school on warm spring mornings.
  • Mr. Cunningham....grade 3 was special.
  • The hockey boards going up. Playing hockey on that 'never-smooth' ice and having to spend a whole PE time shovelling snow off the rink by hand.
  • Mr. Yeoman - yipes!!

I actually have a piece of Blythwood. When they took the Union Jack out of the classrooms, they were stored in the boiler room. Myself and Bill Burke saw them and asked (I'm sure we asked)..... the caretaker if we could each have one. I don't know about Bill, but I still have mine.
