Buena Vista United Methodist Church has come full circle in 100 years.
For much of its history, the church has been a social refuge for a new community
in a foreign land. Now firmly rooted in American soil, our church continues to be
a spiritual haven for many, and also a mission outpost where we can support others,
as we were once supported by the women of the Methodist Episcopal Church South. The initiation of our seniors program, Extending Connections, in 1990 began to round out a full plate of intergenerational programs. In addition, social justice ministries and church-based community organizing helped not only provide support to local concerns, but also helped establish new relationships with local community members and those interested in a progressive minded cultural and spiritual community in the East Bay area. One of the most recent projects initiated from the church has been a Multicultural Community Center here in Alameda which seeks to reach out to a range of new immigrant communities, while cultivating new cultural development for the Alameda community. Buena Vista United Methodist Church is in the Bay View District of the California Nevada Conference of the United Methodist Church |
