Birthplace of David Blosser

The Civil War service record of David Blosser, Second Lieutenant of Company E, 73rd Infantry Regiment of Illinois Volunteers shows the nativity of David at Elizabeth, Wood, Virginia (now Elizabeth, Wirt, West Virginia). Other family records show he was born April 16, 1823.

History of Elizabeth, Wood, Virginia

The West Virginia Encyclopedia gives the following information on Elizabeth under the heading Wirt County:

Elizabeth . . . is located on the Little Kanawha River . . . . It was originally settled in 1796 by William Beauchamp, who in 1803 erected a gristmill there. The place was known as Beauchamp's Mills until 1817, when it was laid out as a town and given the name of Elizabeth in honor of the wife of David Beauchamp.
The formation of Wirt County from parts of Wood and Jackson counties was authorized by an act of the General Assembly of Virginia passed on January 19, 1848.

Jacob Blosser

Jacob appears as living in Wood County in the 1820 and 1830 census. Based on the dates of the census, he was probably born between 1770 and 1775. I believe this Jacob is the son of John Blasser and Catherine Beery. Jacob's brother John could possibly be the father of Henry Blosser who also appears in the census.

Elizabeth Blosser

Elizabeth Blosser was born on January 19, 1800. Daughter of Jacob Blosser and Mary Houser. Married Samuel Alexander McFee (22 Feb 1796) in 1816. They lived 4 miles east of Elizabeth, Wood, Virginia.

Henry Blosser

Henry Blosser came to Wood County, Virginia (now Reedy, Roane County, West Virginia) around 1815. He married Isabelle Stewart in Fayette County, Pennsylvania. Henry Blosser died in Gilmer City, Virginia some time after 1850.

Mary Jane Gardner (Blosser)

Mary Jane Gardner (known also as Blosser) was born 16 Mar 1821, Elizabeth, Wood, Virginia. Mary Jane married Enoch Hilyard, born 9 Mar 1819 near Fayette Co., Pennsylvania. This information came from the Family Bible Record of Enoch Hilyard.
