Why do we call this web site "Black Smokers!"?

Basically, it relates to the Ocean Sciences Bowl question "What is the first step in the formation of a black smoker?". At this point, both Michael and the judge had no idea that black smokers were actually metal-sulfide-spewing hydrothermal vents that form on mid-ocean rifts. They thought it referred to black smokers. Everyone there laughed a lot and it has been an inside joke ever since. Until now, of course.
