| NDS Videoguard is used to encrypt the
broadcasts ofDirecTV
(which is the biggest broadcaster in United States), and
British Sky Broadcasting
which is the biggest and only satellite broadcaster in the United Kingdom). Other
broadcasters include Stream in Italy, YES in Israel,StarTV
in just about all of Asia,Foxtel
in Australia, and SKY in New Zealand. |
|
As there
is very little information about Videoguard, this site will be dedicated to try
and collect the information sources for those of us who are interested
in understanding it better. There are several groups in America and Canada who understand
Videoguard very well. In Europe, however,it appears that interest is only now beginning...
According to their website, NDS videoguard cards are
far more secure than the cards made for other encryption methods.
"Videoguard smart card doesn't use 'off-the-shelf'
chips, and also encorporate such additional security measures such as
Application-Specific Integrated Circuits in the card."
NDS claims that "the development of proprietary solutions
is based non-standard algorithms and protocols and non-standard
chips makes it extremely complex and inaccessible to hackers." The fact that
DirecTV is hacked proves otherwise.
Then again, NDS also claims to be a 'world leader', but from the look of things Nagra is so far leading by far :-)
...So... For educational purposes, we hope to find out as best we can
just how secure is NDS Videoguard...?

good?

January 5, 2002 I was happy to see the Italian site LOMBASAT now
has a new NDS File section! Most of the files deal with American
DSS (old news) but there is a stream file there. Anyone care to
comment
on it? |

October 20,
2001 Welcome to this site!
After following the satellite broadcasting scene for so long
I've collected so many links and FAQs and stuff, that I thought it may be a good time
to start giving back to all of you who have helped.
As there are already so many sites dealing
with the well-known systems (Irdeto, Canal+, etc.) I thought it would be
of most use to try and break a new path and join the very few others who
have made an effort to study NDS Videoguard. I hope to keep the site updated as
often as possible with all the new information we can gather about NDS
Videoguard. For now, please feel free visit the various pages in the site,
and to email me with any suggestions you may have and I'll do my
best to respond.
