RIGHT WORTHY BRO. DONALD HENDERSON LONG

Don was born in Greenslopes, Brisbane in 1934. His early life was spent in Holland Park where he attended the local State school , followed by Brisbane State High School.

After leaving school he began his working life in 1950 with Dalgety & Co. Ltd. in their Wool Division and became a wool auctioneer. In 1972 he joined their accounts department, and in later years, until 1985, did a lot of travelling to western Queensland branches.

He left Dalgety in 1985 and joined Queensland Trading and Holding Co. Ltd., a successful investment company. After this company was taken over, he worked for The Roofing Centre for 3 years, and then, in partnership with his wife Noeleen, owned and operated a licensed Post Office in Brisbane's northern suburbs until selling it in 1997.

Don married Noeleen Sams in 1957 and they have two daughters and two grand children.

Don was initiated in Prince of Wales Lodge No 3 in 1967, and was installed as Master in 1975 and again in 1992. He has since been a member of Viking Lodge No 394 and is presently a member of Yeronga Lodge No 246.

His Royal Arch Masonry commenced in 1983 when he was exalted in North Australian RAC No 2 and installed as First Principal in 1987. He has since joined Stephens RAC No 78 and served as the Chapter's First Principal in the 2004/2005 year. He received the conferred rank of Past Grand Principal Sojourner in 2005 and is currently active as Grand Sword Bearer.

He is a member of Brisbane Duke of Cornwall Conclave No 1, Red Cross of Constantine, Grand Imperial Conclave of Queensland, and enthroned as Most Puissant Sovereign in 2006 of the merged Brisbane Duke of Cornwall No 1.

Don became a member of Duke of York Council No 32 Allied Masonic Degrees in 2002 and Master of the Council in 2006.

He is also a member of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Queensland of the Royal Order of Scotland. having been advanced and promoted in 2000.

His Monitor Masonry commenced with his induction in 1986 in to David Conclave No 2, installed as Supreme Ruler in 1994 and again in 2000. He joined Stephens Conclave No 5 in 2006. He was Grand Sentinel 1998, Grand Bow Bearer 2000, Grand Standard Bearer 2001 and Grand Treasurer from 2002 to the present.

Don and Noeleen live in Moorooka on Brisbane's south side. Both are active members of the Australian Railway Historical Society. Noeleen is a Meals on Wheels volunteer and Don sometimes assists in that area.
