hey steve,
thanks for the no guarantees compliment. it's my andy kaufman tribute. not a danny song. a john song. in the tradition of "the disappointment". my friend matt goodman, who does a hell of a dave gahan (depeche mode) impersonation and jeff buckley sometimes, sings it. i wrote it attempting to do a steeley danish stevie wonderish melancholy piece of beauty. much discussion and debate went into the song due to the audience not getting the joke. the joke is this, it's great and schlocky and pretty and weird and strange and wonderful all at the same time. honestly it's the piece of work i'm most proud of to date. i don't think it will be received well, all the more reason to fuel my own convictions that i'm ahead of my time. ha.

Hello John - happy new year, and congratulations on becoming a married man - new album, new wife, life couldn't be better, right? Yer pa sent me a copy of Yes, Nice, Please, Thanks and - well, it's a hook-laden mini-classic! Your songwriting has improved by leaps and bounds (and it wasn't too shabby before); and your choice of instruments couldn't be better. No electric guitar! Lovely for-real Wurlitzer piano! Real drums! Theremin?? But the songs are great, particularly I Know You're There (especially piano scale lifting into fabulous chorus - simple but very strong, could be The Single); Lost And Found (trumpet theme - yeah); 2199 (love the plaintive verses); Plastic (I'm going to be waking up singing this); but really, all songs distinguished by a great sense of melody and harmony, and are a credit to all you've learned in the past few years of working together. I'll be very surprised if this record doesn't attract serious attention from some major labels soon!

Before I go totally off the deep end with unbridled praise, I think maybe there's room for improvement in a couple of small areas; mainly tuning, and rhythm pockets here and there. Oh, and I didn't like that computer-generated rallentando in Introduce Ourselves, either...BUT...what you guys need is a 7-month tour of one-nighters (yeah, I know, easy for me to say) - build up those blisters, blow out those cobwebs, beef up the performance muscles. If you're still talking to each other afterwards, your next record is going to be a monster. If you can find time to write, that is!

Congratulations on a VERY presentable second album; I wish you all the luck in the world with it, and hope your vision and direction remain focussed and true. Go get 'em!
