| How It Happened... Friday,June 21, 2002 Bethany had just finished her summer courses Thursday evening. Rich and Bethany decided to have lobsters and steak tips at Rich's house the next night because it had been the first weekend Bethany didn't have any papers or projects due. After dinner (which Rich prepared) they decided to get ice cream. Bethany wanted to go to Hodgies (is there anyplace else to get ice cream)? Rich suggested they go to a place in Kingston near where they shared a picnic a couple weeks earlier. "Let's go someplace different" he said. Bethany agreed. After getting their ice cream, Rich suggested they go and eat them in the gazebo where they had their picnic. Bethany said jokingly "is that our special place?" to which Rich replied "yes". They sat down inside and they laughed and talked as they finished their ice cream. Rich stood up and took out a card from his pocket and said "I got you a card because I heard that you have an interview on Tuesday and I wanted to wish you luck." Bethany was completely unsuspecting and began to read. Rich said "it's a little sappy but I really liked it." Bethany kept reading, and as she opened the card to finish she saw Rich get up from the bench and get down on his knee...just as she read the end of the card. There, in a little gazebo in Kingston, Rich asked Bethany to marry him. After the initial shock and disbelief and a little bit of crying, he asked again because she couldn't answer...Bethany said yes. |
