Synopsis:

For thousands of years it has existed. An intelligent symbiotic weapon of incredible power. A living gauntlet that becomes one with its wearer. The Witchblade. Joan of Arc was one. Others have been both its master and its servant. But in all cases, the Witchblade has been used to cut a swath of blood and viscera through the ranks of previously insurmountable evil. And now, in the latter days of the 20th century, the Witchblade has allowed destiny and fate to see out a new bearer.

"Sara Pezzini is a NYPD homicide cop. She's young, tough and smart, and possesses a razor-sharp beauty that she wields like a sword. She's earned her gold shield, but every day she must prove herself on the street, to her bosses and, ultimately, to herself. With a legendary cop father to live up to, Sara attacks her job with a vengeance. She battles a system that favors guilty over the innocent, sometimes, in her all-or-nothing quest to bring down the bad guys, almost going too far.  While investigating her best friend's death, Sara's live, and what she has believed about her world and the forces at work within it, is radically changed forever. That night, fate brings Sara in contact with the Witchblade.

"Unable to free herself from the Witchblade, Sara must learn to govern its power while simultaneously balancing her life and career as a police detective.  But now that Sara possesses the Witchblade, her eyes are opened to a world of evil that goes far beyond just crime on the street. The darkness is countless layers deep, and Sara has no choice but to peel back each one an confront what awaits her."

Week in and week out, Sara Pezzini employs her skills as a police detective to fight crime, using the Witchblade to combat a much greater and frighteningly organized conspiracy of evil that threatens the very soul of humanity. As Sara tries to keep her secret, do her job and have some semblance of a life, she finds that her most formidable adversary might be the Witchblade itself.

The Witchblade - and Sara - are pursued by Kenneth Irons, a billionaire obsessed with possessing the Witchblade, and his enigmatic henchman, Ian Nottingham. When Pezzini's partner, Danny Woo, is murdered, he is replaced by detective Jack McCartey, a laid-back surfer from California. Pezzini's nemesis is Gallo, who is responsible for the grief in her life.

Comments
I still wonder how Yancy really feels about this movie. She certainly went out of her way to promote it - but that is part of her job.

When I first heard Yancy was doing Witchblade I was very excited and happy for her. The other names attached to the project and the talk about what they had planned for the show really got my hopes up for a successful TV show.
Unfortunately the pilot movie was a bit of a disappointment for me...

Even though Yancy virtually carried this whole show on her own, it was basically an uphill battle from the word go. I could not ignore the many areas where Witchblade fell into the same pit as all the previous attempts by moviemakers to translate a comicbook onto film. The script, the ridiculously fast editing, the meaningless use of certain special effects and so on and so forth... it all seemed below par somehow. I certainly expected way too much from the people involved.

Please, I don't like to give negative criticism and would not do so lightly, but even within the limited budget this film had, I think it could have been done much better. Yancy brought as much depth, passion, strength and believability to her role as was possible with such a script, but in the end the actor can do only that much.

There is something really cool at the core of the Witchblade story, but I am sorry to say the director and writer did not capture it.

Witchblade definitely isn't the best showcase for Yancy's talent in my opinion, but I will keep an open mind and see if they can improve on things with the series.
