Best-selling
author Robert B. Parker unleashes his legendary private eye, Spenser (Joe
Mantegna), to wage war against the streets' most feared crime lord. But
as time to save an innocent woman's life runs out, the clues in Spenser's
most dangerous case may disappear into THIN AIR.
Police
officer Frank Belson comes to Spenser with a problem: His wife, radio disc
jockey Lisa St. Claire (Yancy Butler), left him without a trace. But did
she leave Frank because of their growing marital problems, or was foul
play involved?
As
Spenser searches for answers, with help from his psychiatrist wife (Marcia
Gay Harden), he soon learns the truth about Lisa. Formerly known as "Angela
Richard," Lisa served a jail sentence as a prostitute addicted to drugs.
After completing a rehab program, she graduated from college and assumed
a new identity, escaping an abusive boyfriend, Luis Deleon (John Seda),
in the process.
Spenser
soon deduces that Luis has abducted Lisa, and is holding her prisoner in
an armed compound. Luis then attacks Frank, critically wounding the officer,
and Spenser vows to rescue Lisa at any cost.
Hatching
an ingenious scheme to infiltrate Luis' compound, Spenser enlists the help
of a rival druglord, borrowing one of his fiercest bodyguards, Chollo (Luis
Guzman). When Chollo pretends he has come to Luis with a deal from his
boss, he gains entry to the fort. Determined to help Lisa, Spenser puts
into motion a suicide mission that could go wrong at any turn.
When
Spenser's plan unexpectedly goes awry, a gun battle breaks out just as
the compound is engulfed in flames. With a blazing maze of fire all around
them, and the roof caving in, Spenser and his team meet their goal of locating
Lisa... only to now face the challenge of escaping with their lives.
