California's Route 224

Route 224 is from Route 101 near Carpinteria to the Carpinteria Beach State Park. {CS&HC Sec. 524. 1970} Upon determination by the commission that it is in the best interest of the state to do so, the commission may, upon terms and conditions approved by it, relinquish State Route 224 from post mile 0.0 to post mile 1.7 to a city in which that segment of the highway is located, if the city has agreed to accept the relinquishment. The relinquishment shall be effective on the day immediately following the date of the approval of the terms and conditions by the commission. [CS&HC Sec. 73.3] History

  • 1996: Route 224 deleted. Points of Interest "Carpinteria Beach State Park" is now known as Carpinteria State Beach. Notes From the beach, Route 224 went north on Palm Avenue, east on Carpinteria Avenue, and north on Casitas Pass Road to Route 101. Many a map have shown this route (erroneously) connecting to Route 192. However, this route still shows up in the 2001 Caltrans Photolog.
