Ship's Log
(Nov 4-6, 2004 Houston Texas)
We're still a few a few miles up the San Bernard from the
Gulf. Getting things ready to push out to sea for our cruise to Belize
and parts south.
Jimmy spent about 2 days up in mid Texas working on his
house, which he's putting on the market. He got back sometime Oh
dark-30 this morning waking me up, but not a problem as it was time to get
up an put in the daily run (5 mile pre-dawn run).
Skipper and I meanwhile have been working on the boat, he
the diesel generator, and I on the water-maker. Looks like we'll have to
pull the generator back out, after lowering her in last week, to get her
running right. The water-maker probably needs a new membrane, which we
might pull out and look at, before the skipper makes a decision about
shipping her up to Minnesota for inspection, or to replace the membrane all
together

La Trucha's Cockpit, port sail locker is where the new diesel generator is
The neatest project, or work on the boat, for me, is the
work Ricky, Jim's son, is doing on fashioning a stainless steel metal plate
together, which is to used for stepping the mast onto the keel. The
steel must have been 5/8" or better, and the whole thing was going to have a
small little lip of about 2 or so inches. (Don't hold me to any
technical stuff, or dimensions as they are wild guesses)
Still have yet to tackle the mast sheaves, and other items
we need to make La Trucha ready for sea.
Now is the time to make our window, as the last front which
just rolled through has really settled out the Gulf, at least as far as I
can tell looking at some weather sites.
Still fairly cool in the mornings now - probably in the 40's
each night, but it's supposed to stay dry right through to next week.

Here is a good look of the water maker, located under the v-berth
