Interview Top of the pops Magazine May 2001

Bellefire

Say hello to the band!
There's Tara Lee, Kelly Kilfeather and sisters Ciara and Cathy Newell - four fresh-faced lasses hailing from Sligo, Irealnd. You may already recognise them as the lucky girls who supported Westlife on their UK tour. But the Irish connection doesn't stop there - the girls' manager is none other than the 'Life's boss Louis Walsh!

Will we be hearing bells?!
No, as Kelly explains: "The name translates into Balcanac, which is Irish for the month of May and it's also a Celtic festival. We wanted a name that would reflect that we're from Ireland."

But can they play?
You bet, and do't ever let anyone tell you these gals aren't talented! Not only do they all sing beautifully, Bellefire also play their own instruments. Tara and Kelly are fairly nifty on the guitar, while Ciara and Cathy prefer tinkling the ivories!

The new Corrs perhaps?
Well, the vocals are a cool cross between Andrea Corr and Emma Bunton, but don't jump to any copycat conclusions. These girls do all play their own instruments and they do have honey-sweet voices, but they're keen to establish their own sound - an infectious blend of cool classy pop!
