Biography
Written on the 29th July 2003 by Siuman for http://net.clubs.nl/bellefire & http://geocities.com/bellefireforever (do not copy) Bellefire are an Irish girl band, who make classic pop music. They are better known from the summer "feel-good"-song; "Perfect Bliss" and the U2 cover; "All I want is you". The special thing about Bellefire is that they can play their own instruments, such as violin, piano and guitar. Their voices have a sweet harmonic sound together.
Bellefire: Kelly, Cathy & Ciara
The girl band consists of Kelly Kilfeather (25) from Sligo and the sisters Cathy (22) and Ciara (21) Newell from Galway. Originally the girl band was a five-piece girl band instead of a three-piece band, Tara Lee (22) from Dublin and Paula O Neill from Cork were also in the band. Kelly, Paula, Tara and Ciara met each other at auditions in Dublin. Cathy was the last member to join the band in 1999. As Chit Chat the girls performed their songs at the Boyzone concerts as supporting acts. They have decided to name themselves Chit Chat, because they didn't have a lot of time to make up a good one, and they saw someone eating a famous chocolate bar and that's where the name Chit Chat is derived from. In January 2000 the girls were supposed to have their debut on TV in Dublin, but two days before the TV debut Louis Walsh & John Reynolds told that band member Paula O Neill wasn't in the band anymore. They said that they rather see Paula as a solo artist. From that moment on, the girl band continued with Kelly, Cathy, Tara and Cathy.
Paula O Neill: not in the band since January 2000
The four girls have changed their name very quickly into Bellefire. They've chosen this name to show others that they're from Ireland and that they're proud of it. The word Bellefire is derived from the word Balcanac, which means May in Irish. It also is a Celtic festival. The girls still needed a record contract. They did showcases for a lot of different record companies and got a chance from Virgin, who is also the record company from bands like Atomic Kitten and Blue. After doing a lot of promotion, Bellefire's debut single Perfect Bliss has been released in June 2001. This summer song reached an impressive number two in homeland Ireland and Perfect Bliss reached the 18th position in the British charts. Perfect Bliss didn't only do well in Europe, the single also did great in the Japanese charts. That's why the girls went to Japan to do some extra promotion. Because of the big success in Japan, there was decided to release a second single over there. This was the double A-side single with the U2 cover All I want is you and the song Find my way (Buzzstyle), which is also a cover. The original version is written and sang by the famous Japanese artist Hitomi Yaida (also known as Yaiko), with who the girls have toured in Japan. Not only did the girls release a second single over there, but also their debut album After the rain. This album has never been released in Europe and this isn't going to happen either .
Bellefire in Japan
The second single All I want is you, a cover from the Irish rockband U2, has finally been released in Europe in March/May 2002. It reached the 5th position in the Irish charts. Unfortunately, this second single couldn't reach a higher position than before in Great Britain and got to number eighteen once again. After this result, the girls' record company Virgin records decided Bellefire weren't good enough and has dropped the girl band on the 17th May 2002. Soon after this terrible news, band member Tara Lee decided to leave the girl band. Her reasons to quit Bellefire were that she didn't believe in pop fame anymore, after working two years for it. She also wanted to try other things, which she already liked since she was very young, like modelling and fashion.
Tara Lee: left the band in June 2002
The other band members were shocked, when they heard Tara's decision. Kelly, Cathy & Ciara have almost split up, but decided to give it one more try, just to see how it goes. On the 12th June 2002 Bellefire's new record company has been revealed. They got a new chance from East West records, who are also the record company of the successful Irish band The Corrs and the British boyband Blazin' Squad. Apparently they had interests in Bellefire before, but the girls have chosen for Virgin that time. After having the holidays, the girls signed a new record deal with their new record company East West records.
Their first single as a trio and with East West is called "Say something anyway", which was another top thirty single in the British charts. This track is taken from their new album "Spin the wheel" which is due out later this year!
Not only Kelly, Cathy and Ciara have been busy after Tara left, Tara has a quite interesting life after Bellefire. When she just left, she was working in fashion, one of the things she always liked to do! Wanna read more about that? Just go to this website. Nowadays she started with acting, shes got a really small part in a drama called Big Bow Wow in Ireland.
