| After months of talking about it Matt Alexander finally
put his blood, sweat, tears and money into an idea that had been boiling
in his brain for years. He built a stage, he rearranged his furniture and
he sent out invitations and on Saturday, December 13th, 2003 the people
came. Jay Hosking brought the microphones and speakers and set up his recording
device and by 7:30pm we were ready to go.
Jason was the first to take the stage. He too had been talking about an idea for entertainment that he thought people might enjoy and finally he was given a forum to express himself. Due to possible copyright infringements we are not at liberty to state explicitly what it was Jason did to amuse us on that night. We might describe it as an historical reenactment of a story that involves a naive young man and his estranged father (an intergalactic dictator fond of black.) Philip Eddolls dazzled and befuddled us with a magical mind-reading demonstration which seemed to defy all possible physical explanation. Even in the face of deceit and treachery at the hands of a rival Philip was able to concentrate on the task at hand in order to successfully glean the information needed to incite head scratching and the tossing away of jugs of moonshine. Wax Mannequin has traveled all over this enormous country of ours to play his catchy and poetic rock and roll songs for all kinds of audiences, but the President of Indie Rock was not beyond charming us with an acoustic set of seven splendid songs. We played his money game, of drawing on paper bills, and though there was some resistance from a vocal subversive the President prevented quickly quelled any possible revolt and was able to maintain the peace. Mike DeCrook usually stands behind one of the guitars in the band AquaMuffin but on this night he sat alone. Inspired by The Wax Mannequin's finger picking Mike decided to try out a classic cover and a few solo versions of his band's songs. |
