about Bedsprings, Ontario

Bedsprings, Ontario is located on the Northern Shore of Lake Ontario in Canada. We are a small and tightly knit community comprised mostly of writers, artists, musicians and thinking folk. Every two months we get together for, and invite outsiders to, The Bedsprings Talent Show.

The stage is 4' x 8'. The room becomes crowded with 16 people. The entrance is halfway down an alleyway between a butcher shop and a fish shop.  Ventilation is poor. You have to bring your own alcohol. The guestbook is in the bathroom. Audience members often heckle the performers.

The Talent Show takes place in the living room of Matt Alexander's basement apartment where we assemble a stage built from planks of wood and a queen sized bedframe. We are always looking for new performers, be they musicians, magicians, playwrights, storytellers or simply masters of some incredible skill, to entertain us from our tiny stage.

Each Talent Show is recorded with microphones and guests are encouraged to draw on pieces of matboard. We put the artwork on the wall as it is completed, and edit the audio into a compact disc. The art is compiled into a booklet and everything is assembled as a souvenir which is made available to the public.
