| We put the plywood on the bedframe, set the
snacks out on the table and filled the bowl with crayons, markers and pens
once again. The drawing boards went up on the wall more readily this time
and one of our guests began taking photographs.
Jason took the stage first and led us through a long and complicated tale of intrigue and the perils of paramilitarism. He soldiered through the questions and criticisms which came came flying at him from all directions, but he would not divulge the secret details of his still-classified report. The mission had to be aborted. Razzle and Dazzle, the magical duo known together as Magnificent (with a soft 'g'), were brought to the stage next and quickly began their heavy-metal illusions of flash and distraction. The pair worked quickly to perform as many amazing feats as time would allow, but a lone heckler in the audience did everything in his power to throw off their mojo. The heckler revealed himself to be none other than Jason from the first act. Thrown into a flashback by the rock and roll music, this poor, disturbed veteran evidently mistook one of the magicians for an enemy spy in disguise, and attempted to reveal his true identity at every turn. Your Volunteer (Jay Hosking), who usually works behind the scenes to amplify the audio and record it onto his computer in the kitchen, found his guitar and a seat on one of his speakers. He sang beautiful songs made more interesting with the use of an audio looping device. Somewhere near the middle of his set he began handing out glass cups and forks and spoons. He instructed audience members to clink out a waltz rhythm and we all played along. Near the end of his set Jay invited Carny on stage to play his guitar as well. Kid Gloves (Mark "Carny" Meeks) switched places with Jay at the end of his set and took his place at centre stage. Jay stayed up there however, and played accompanyment with his guitar and melodica. The audience clapped along for Two by Two and Mark kept the mood light with witty banter. |
