planetarian ~the reverie of a little planet~: Storyline
This section contains spoilers of the storyline. This is intended for people that can't get the visual novel & simply want to read about it. This is all from memory, so some of the parts may be incorrect.
Thirty years ago, a World War III (also known as The Great War) broke out. A biochemical warhead was released & destroyed a huge chunk of the planet. As a result, most of the human population has been eliminated. Endless rain falls to the ground, which was created by the warhead.
The story opens with a girl's voice introducing the reader to the plantarian. We see a scene from 30 years ago.
Present time, a junker arrives to an abandon city in search of supplies & shelter. The city is called the "Sealed City". What caught his attention was a dome-shaped like building. After entering into the building, he discovers that it's not an old military base. Instead, he finds a girl there who welcomes him as the 1 millionth customer into the place called planetarian. He realizes that the girl is a robot that didn't know what happen to the world 30 years ago as she woke up from hibernation. Her name is Reverie Planetarian. The junker initially thought she was a threat that was set up by someone to kill him. Only after some careful examination, he realizes that she was annoying as she kept pestering him with a banquet of flowers, which is really a bunch of electrical parts & wires, & wanting to show him the special 1 millionth presentation that the planetarian had prepared a long time ago. Giving in since he can't go outside due to the heavy rainfall, Reverie is happy & starts the show. However, the projector is broken due to years of it being unused. Reverie tries to contact the maintenance department only to find no answer, which was expected. Also, she tells the junker how she couldn't find any of the staff in the building. Thinking he was free from this, he somehow ends up fixing the machine after seeing how sad Reverie was.
Days past as the junker repairs the projector as the heavy rainfall continues. At the same time, we learn about bit about his past & the incident 30 years ago. People killing others to survive on their own & how he ended up training himself since he was young. As the junker is repairing the machine, Reverie goes to work as she practices her lines in welcoming people to the planetarian. Everyday, she watches the rainfall & waits at the main entrance for people to come. Regardless of what the junker tells her about nobody coming, she continues to wait for people to come & try to contact the planetarian staff. The junker then has 2nd thoughts about her & starts to feel sorry for her. In the meantime, he is relaxing inside the planetarian with little to worry about.
When the junker finally sees the problem on the projector due to too much grease put into the machine from 30 years ago & repairs it, Reverie is happy & starts the show as soon as possible. Watching the presentation, the junker feels as if he's in another world as he watches the stars. Because of the rain, the stars are covered & their beauty can't be exposed naturally. During the presentation, the power goes off in the building. Because the city had lost power many years ago, the building was actually running on a backup power generator. This was the reason why Reverie woke up during this time period. As the junker panics about the situation since all that effort went down the drain, Reverie told him not to worry as she continues the presentation. As she speaks, the junker closes his eyes & imagines the stars though her words. After the presentation, Reverie is satisfied as the junker praises her for her work. With the rain easing up & no power left in the building, he realizes he must leave the city & decides to take Reverie with him.
As they leave the planetarian, Reverie brings the junker's banquet of flowers that he originally threw away. Although he thinks of it as deadweight & has no use for it, he lets her carry it for him. As they run down the empty city with caution, he realizes that Reverie can't keep up with him & starts to worry him. He tells her to wait at a safe place as he looks around the city for an exit. Finding the exit, he sees that it's guarded by a large robotic tank. In a fail attempt to snipe it, he gets into a mid range combat with the tank. As he's about to take a critical hit, Reverie appears in front of him as she tries to communicate with the tank with a channel. As she tries many times & walks to it, she gets blasted & loses her lower body. In anger, the junker finishes off the tank & attends to Reverie's aid.
Looking at Reverie's condition, the junker realizes it's not possible to fix her. Before she shuts down, she shows the junker her past memories where customers greet her & how she love them. Also, she showed him the scene when the biochemical warhead was launching to the city & how the staff put her to sleep by telling her that they are going on a vacation. At the end of showing her memories, Reverie gives her memory stick to the junker in hopes that her data will be useful for the next line of robots. Before she shuts down, she rehearses her entrance lines once more. After she shuts down, the junker takes it with him & puts it in a safe place. While he does that, he hears a lot of robotic tanks coming & assume that the 1 he defeated called for backup. In the end, he throws away his gun & waits with a tearful smile next to Reverie.
