Introduction You wouldn't believe how much troubles I had to get this figurine! I ordered it the week it was released & it took ago a month for YesAsia to ship it to me. It was sent to the wrong address & was sent back to them a month later. It was horrible as I thought I wasted a lot of money on this for nothing. This figurine was originally available only from events in Japan. When it became available through retail, it took awhile for this figurine to almost sell out. Now, it's not easy to find. Anyways, when I first saw this figurine from a pic in a toy convention, I thought it looked good. Although I couldn't see the face from it, I assume it looked good when trying to look at it. When the official pic came out before the release, I saw the face & I hesitated a bit. It was later that I decided to go for it, mainly cause of the size. After a long time of waiting, was this a good purchase? Some of the pictures aren't clear & good. If I have time, I'll redo the bad ones & repost them. |

The Review Usually I don't talk about packaging boxes, but this one is an exception. It looks horrible. When I saw it from Hong Kong sellers, I thought this was a bootleg. They got the item a day or two before the Japanese release date. It was only until I saw that box again when Japan finally got the figurine. Since it's quite pricey, I thought that Clayz could of at least made a better looking box.
I have no idea why this is called "COMPLETE TYPE". Saber doesn't have her full armour on. She's only in her blue & white dress. Anyways, people have said this is a very big figurine. I have seen people say this is 26cm tall & have put this figurine in its box next to the Good Smile Company Saber version. It looks really big that way. But when you finally take Saber out of that big box, you get the result in the pic above. It's about 75% of that box's height. Place her next to the Good Smile one, this one is about twice its height. It's not that big really. However, it's quite heavy. Saber comes with everything you see here. A large black round display base & Excalibur with its sheath. Placing Saber on the base requires you to stretch her legs to the side a bit. Excalibur has a couple of pegs on the handle that you place on her right hand. It's a little challenging since you need to stretch that hand a bit & avoid scratching her dress. The sheath doesn't stick to Excalibur. It will fall off. I don't know why Clayz doesn't have some sort of system to allow the sheath to stay in place when putting Excalibur in it.
This isn't a bad pose. This is what encouraged me to buy this. It's really nice, even though it's a static pose. Looking it from all directions, it's pretty good; especially Saber's sides. Looking at her sides, it's really a nice posture. The creases on her dress & sleeves are excellent. It looks very natural. The paint job of Saber is fairly hard to judge. It's good in some areas & bad in some areas. You might think this is the case for all figures. But for a figure at this size & price, you should expect either all or nothing. The blue tones on the Saber's clothing is superb. A strong balance as it creates a good amount of shadow to it. It's light in some areas & slowly tones darker at the bottom. It looks like metallic paint was used, but I don't believe it is. The gold paint is bold as well & really brings life. However, the areas where this paint colour is applied isn't too good in some areas. The gold on Saber's blue part of her dress is painted quite well with some unevenness. The same can be said on all other clothing parts that have that gold trim. The back side is trimmed nicely for some reason. When you look at the yellow spots at the hem of her white dress, it's pretty bad. They aren't even & they don't seem like a lot of attention was put into it when it was painted on. Looking it for afar isn't noticeable, but it's pretty bad when you look at it close up & from all sides. The white shirt around it is not "clean" white. It looks dirty. I would say it was mixed with some yellow to get that colour tone, which isn't too bad. It doesn't make it look like a cheap toy. The molding job could have used some work. I saw some molding problems on the side connecting joints. The old metal gear on this figurine is Saber's boots. The boots aren't painted bad. However, the molding looks poor as its shape on some parts doesn't look even. The silver paint has bit of dull chrome to it, which makes it stand out naturally. The Excalibur's handle is painted nicely. The fine blue trimmings were done very well. The blade is a bit plain though. Unlike Good Smile Company's, the blade didn't have any engravings. It looks the same as any other sword. Excalibur's sheath is very good until you reach to its tip. The blue lines are beautifully done. It was quite clean, even though it had some unevenness at times. At the end of the sheath, quality drops. The paint job is poor as if it was last minute work. It's a shame really to see a beautiful sheath drop in quality cause of that. I actually put this back in the box since I didn't know where to put it & I don't want to lose it. The molding of Saber's face looks unique. It has a detail facial structure from the cheek to the chin. The face is actually painted, not etched. However, the quality of it looks like those children's water paint was used. The facial expression really fits Saber's character, but I don't really like it too much. I have a personal fact about faces on figures. For middle-sized figures (1/8 ones usually), the faces are well done. For figures smaller (gashapon & trading figures) or larger (1/6 & above), the faces aren't well done. This one was no exception. Over time, I didn't get use to it. |

Overall Conclusion Saber Complete Type doesn't seem complete to me. It's not a bad figurine, but I felt it could do a little better in terms of the detail department. I got rid of it after keeping it for a long time. On a scale of ten, it gets an eight. The high score is based on the pose & excellent paint tones. The lost points were from the paint job & the sheath not connecting to Excalibur. As mentioned above, Saber Complete Type is now sold out. In terms of my recommendation of getting this figurine or not, I actually have no idea. Price wise, it's quite expensive. But it gives a better value than the Good Smile Company version in terms of size. However, it's not that big as most people are proclaiming it to be. Personally, I would suggest people to wait for a better price deal on this for safe measures. This figurine isn't too great, but not too bad. |
